• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1987 XC 250 Reborn..

Pachovilla

Husqvarna
C Class
I´m all new in the forum, and in the brand. I don´t know if this is a Vintage Restoration Project, but is nice to think it is.

I just bought a frame, engine and some other stuff of a 1987 250 xc (acording to frame number), and will need a lot of help. It need a lot of parts, but the most important are brakes and CDI.

I found this guy selling 1986 WR stuff, but I´m not shure if this bikes are the same or not, he have almost everithing I need to start this restoration.

Any help on this info abyss will really help me

Thanks....

can we get a pic of the bike? many husky parts swap around but many will not. the bike in my pic is 87-88 style. 85-86 is mostly single shock as well but not alot will swap, even tho its very similiar.depends on what you want to do. you will have to be more specific in your questions

either way these are my favorite huskies from this period!

following the responses
the reason for the pictures is too many people get the years mixed up
some parts go back and forth through the years but brakes don't
cdi or in the Husky world Motoplat or SEM are a little different in the mounting but not mixable in parts is important
if you buy an ignition, assuming you have none, make sure the parts are ALL THE SAME BRAND
now if your ignition does not work thats a different matter, you will need an ohm meter and a little patience
brakes on the front 1 piston caliper is 85 or 86 2 piston caliper is 87 or 88, you want a matching master cylinder
rear brakes if yours is an XC the brake backing plate has a flat metal arm that goes to the swingarm
if it's 87 or 88 it has a tab on the swingarm that engages the backing plate slot

but yes pics would really be great and we get to see your new toy :D

I´ll take pics as soon as I can, for now I only have this one.

The ideal job would be to restore the bike, more than just making it work, but it might depend on the spares I can find, and also not every seller knows exactly the specs.

The good thing is that engine looks fine, just need the CDI to start it up.

So if I´m getting it right, I have to look for 87 and 88 parts, not pre and not post.

Thank´s and will come back with more pics...

Pacho, as you can see we all would like to help and share our trial and errors with you, everyone here is truly wiling to help with bringing your bike back to life. but first we need to see this work of art.

yep thats an 87r8 anybody know why or when they lost the fender loop i notice Pancho's doesn't have one???

so what you have so far is indeed 87-88 parts. those are good forks as far as the swedes go. if you notice how the brakes bolt to them, you can only use 87-88 brakes. this is ok as you get the dual piston which works much better than the earlier style. this also means you must use the 87-88 style front wheel which has a solid rotor. if this doesnt work you can easily slide in earlier forks and use the earler stuff, which seems more common. your bike is the last of the pure swede husky.

i believe the xc lost the frame loop towards the end..mine never had one. it also doesnt have the loop added protecting the waterpump

This is correct. It could be a CR frame with enduro fork & swing arm. My 87 CR frame was like that

MY 81 430XC HAD THE CENTER TUBE THE LITTLE TUBE UNDER THE CLUTCH COVER AND THE FENDER LOOP DONT KNOW ABOUT A LOOP UNDER THE WATER PUMP MY 87 250WR HAS NO FRAME TUBE AROUND THE WP:excuseme:

my friends 87 430 xc has no frame loop but has the lil waterpump loop. hard to tell with husky at that time with the swedes putting them together then i guess the italians put some together.

wow, that motocross is a clean bike! wonder why my 88 has no pump loop? i got it from a dealer as nos and pretty much know the history on it

Yes that 430 CR is one of my pride and joys. It use to be my race bike. I had collected a bunch of NOS parts over the years. I got a message from Gunnar Lindstom when Husky was the make at Vintage days some time back he needed one for the display so I restored it. As with your XC it is strange as you don't have the water pump loop. But back in 87 at the end the Swedes where cleaning out the parts bin and maybe your frame is a CR with a XC motor. I know that when the move to Italy happened they stoped with the XC as it was geared to the US and not to Europe.
