• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

got my eye on a xc/wr430, seen some photos yet to see it in the flesh but looks to be in good nick.
i was wondering if there are any problems or terminal problems that i should be aware of as the bike is a non runner and i need to know what is a real pita to have to fix.
i will do the ususal checks etc .
the bike was running but the owner removed the clutch cover and has been left like that eversince.
i have a 2001 yz250 front end, forks, tripples, brake and wheel and was wondering how hard it would be to retro fit to this frame.
if all goes well i will post some pics.

There was no 430XC or WR models produced in 1984 model year. As far as things to look out for;

Check the rear mounting boss that the swingarm pivot passes through. The engine case in that area can develope cracks. The cases are magnesium
Check the swingarm bearings. If the pivot can not be removed, possible trouble. On the right side if allowed, remove the swingarm pivot nut on that side and check for elongation in the pivot hole in the frame.
Since the clutch cover is off, check the condition of the clutch hub within the plate slots.
Count the cylinder fins. If there are 10 you got a 500

Most else is basic used bike inspection.

As far as for retrofitting the YZ frontend, the easiest way is to adapt the Husqvarna stem to the YZ tripleclamps. It may require sleeves in the YZ triples but it is the easiest way to test a modern front end on a vintage Husqvarna. Another option if the YZ stem is high enough is get a 50mm OD X 25mm ID X14mm high bearing from All Ballz The YZ stem likely has a lower stem of 30mm so the bearing I mention will do the trick.

ok took a good look at the photos and has got 9 cylinder fins, so maybe a wr430 from 83.yz stem as you stated 30mm flange in lower triple total length of stem 240mm.really looking forward to wednesday wheni pick the bike up, thanks jim.
