• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1983 husqvarna wr/cr exhaust pipe?

AA Class
Hi I have a 1983 wr frame rolling stock with a 250 cr motor (the motor may be an 83 or 82 year: how do I know?). I bought the bike some time ago not going and due to injury am spending the time to restore it. I never had a pipe with it, but recently got a good condition one off ebay, however, the pipe to barrel end has a male end, not female, and does not fit over the barrel flange (it is close to the same diameter). Something is wrong, either the pipe is the wrong year (but looks right and I thought all years had the female fitting pipe?), the barrel and flange are wrong year, or the pipe has been altered for some reason? I am thinking it may have been altered.

From the end of the 2 attachment spring tabs on the pipe to end of pipe is 103 and 105mm respectively. To where the male part starts to the tabs is 85 and 87mm. The male part outside diameter is 46.8 and before that the pipe is 48.7mm.

Can anyone with an 83 pipe give me some advice or a picture?

regards

Ted

Thanks Jimspac, it is hard to see so I will take and post another picture. It looks like it has been added to by welding on the pipe part of the intake manifold and then cutting of the rest of the manifold. should perhaps have got a built one from HVA ?

A CR header may have been modified to WR specs, but I am sure the pipe header slides over the exhaust manifold bolted onto the cylinder

Here's a picture of my 1983 500CR with the pipe installed, the exhaust pipe has a larger diameter sleeve welded at the end that slides over the outside of the exhaust manifold (as noted by jimspac above). The 83 parts manual diagram shows the 250 pipes to be configured the same way, with a larger end to slide over the exhaust manifold on the cylinder.

What's the numbers on the engine?? Since the pipes won't fit a flag just went up in my mind?

the pipe wont fit because someone did a hack job on it at some point for some unknown reason, according to his picture.

Thanks guys. After your help, It looks like someone has put a collar inside the original collar. To confirm could someone with an 83 250 pipe give me the measurements from the tip of the spring tabs to the end of the collar, and the collar outside diameter? If I ignore the extended collar and measure the outside of what could be the original collar it measures 48.8 mm. If this is the case, I will not simply be able to cut it off as the extended collar goes inside the original. See picture. I will have to hone it some how?

The engine number is 2089 1277. It is a cr, but not sure if 82 or 83. In any case it came in a 430 wr frame with no pipe, hence me getting the pipe in question of ebay. Does the engine number indicate year? The barrel is not painted so indicates possible 82 motor?

thanks

Thanks. That Web site helps. looks like it is an xc as has motopate ignition. may be 82 year as cylinder not black painted. might be best to leave messing with the pipe till motor in bike.
