• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1982 Husqvarna Cr 430 & 250 Projects!

I had been looking for a new project since getting rid of a couple suzuki's at the end of last year. These came up and before i knew it I loaded up the dog n the old lady and we were on our way. The add was stating he was clearing out all his bikes due to back injury. Jeez he had some nice stuff 83 rm500, 85 kx500 but I was happy to get the husky projects for $500 all in with a new standard bore cyl/piston.

He said he had rebuilt the 430 motor and never got around to putting it in. It didn't take me long and I was trying to fire her up. Noticed an airleak on the reed valve so I fabed up a gasket and boom 2nd kick she fired. Unfortunately something strange happened and it seemed like I couldn't get the bike to go or stay in neutral after that. I've since then removed the clutch cover to inspect the shifting mechanisms but nothing appears out of the ordinary. Any suggestions??

The 250 is a lil bit further out then the 430 but I've already ordered a gasket set. My one question I have for this bike is regarding seals. I did not disassemble this engine so I'd like to know if anyone would have a picture of seals installed in this engine for reference.

The bearing on left and I'm the center are very rough and loud, I hear it is not suggested to swap bearings unless absolutely necessary but I would not feel write leaving it this way. Any tricks on removal of these bearings ? Also anyone have bearing specs ?
Second pic is of the piston for this bike. Not quite sure what is going on there, what are my options ? Aftermarket Pistons ? Old stock? Appreciate all the help I can get ! Thanks !

Good score for $500... & replace all the bearings, seals, gaskets etc while it's apart for piece of mind.

As John said ..... and a new piston. Looks like the ring had an argument with something. Is there a ring location peg still in there ??

Sounds good, I have a bearing and seal list kicking around, I think it's 6 bearings and two seals in total, gasket set is on the way. And it's weird looks like maybe someone tried to weld a stop on it ? Not quite sure what it's supposed to look like. I will inspect my new 430 piston to compare. Excited to get started ! Thanks a lot guys.
Also on the 430 I've removed clutch cover and will inspect that side before digging in any further, not quite sure y it wouldn't be able to stay in neutral, would it have anything to do with the spring and ball located in the shifting shaft? Like I said the guy stated he rebuilt this engine but it's hard to really tell what was done.

need to get the top end examined by a machine shop for roundness and actual size before ordering piston.

Also wondering if any of u have used those seals or purchased from that seller ?

I have purchased from Tri Trophy and highly recommend him. Viton is much better than nitrile and getting the set for the price is great as well. I have seen Viton at husqvarna-parts.com at the same price for one seal

ok perfect I will get those ordered shortly ! I've been looking around for replacement bearings for the cr 250 and haven't had much luck. Does anyone have a list of bearings with dimensions? in my parts manual and other manual it only says part # which doesn't translate at all bearing places I've looked. Thanks ! And yes absolutely justintendo, I figured for now ill concentrate on getting bottom end back together then I will do piston/bore/hone. I wish I had all the cash to just order everything and get it over with but I will need to do one thing at a time, appreciate all the help guys !

Yes Pm me I can send spreadsheet. I buy in volume so close to ordering this week for more
I only use two types

SKF for most all and ZKL for the ignition side main bearing Also be using
SKF main seal in last rebuilds.

When removing and install heat the heck out of case. About 400 and they should drop out. Freeze new bearing overnight before
installing in case. Don't press any bearings in or out.

Dont know how you got these for that price !! Great find

I would feel guilty and pay more !!

Not sure how to pm on this site as I'm new to it. If u have iPhone u can iMessage me 12043302569, and I totally felt guilty, I asked him if he was sure $500 was all he wanted. I'm sure he paid $500 just for that 430 jug n piston!

While I wait for parts to come in for the 250 I've switched over to the 430 to try and narrow down the neutral issue. As stated above I got the engine to fire after fixing an air leak on the reed valve. When it was running it jumped out of neutral and stalled (obviously) after that I can sometimes find what I think is neutral but when I go to kick it over it right away jumps into gear.... anyone here ever have this happen to them? Where should I be looking here ? Does the ball and spring in the shifter shaft have to do with finding neutral because he stated he rebuilt the engine but I'm wondering if he could have missed something? Thanks guys !

Inspecting these shocks off the cr 250 and one is totally pooched. Any leads on parts for these koni 23x 1160 10? Worth rebuilding ? Online forum world has not proven to helpful as everyone is looking for seals for this set.
