• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1982 CR 500, to rebuild or not to build, that is the question

I just picked up a '82 CR 500 and an '81 XC 430 off of a craigslist add that read "2 WR360's, $600 for the pair". I noticed in the pictures that one of the bikes had 10 fins and a silver frame which peaked my interest. So I went on a little road trip and discovered that the one bike was indeed a Silverstreak based on the frame and engine numbers. The other bike is a 430 xc...... Both bike have missing parts pieces, but the 500 is the worst, looks to have had the kick back broken center case issue, the original tank has been repainted twice and has dents, along with a bunch of other issues. My question is, is it worth rebuilding? I paid 200 bucks apiece so I have some room for rebuilding the 500....any advice and comments welcome.
Thanks,
w

Nice find for sure.
If they were mine, I would restore not just rebuild. The SS is an iconic Husky, highly desired. Having both frame and engine with numbers is a great start. A nice SS tank alone is about $800. I would guess a restored SS might sell for $4000 - $5000.
Beyond the value, I would restore just to save a great looking Husky.
