• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Wow beautiful job! What brand of paint did you use on the engine and pipe?[/quote
Grey etch primer on the crankcases, just blasted the head and barrel with a coarse grit then followed up with PJ1 satin Black case paint. The exhaust and silencer are pro form racing from the states,an absolute work of art.PJ1 high temp exhaust paint, which again is made your side of the pond.Glad you like the bike 2 years but it was worth it.

That is one bad-a## motorcycle you built there. Can I have it to put in MY livingroom? It would never get dirty or abused - PROMISE!

I bought the bike out of a free admag about 15 years ago for approximately $200 dollars, unfortunately divorce got in the way so i stored it at my brothers. The engine has had all new bearings, new crank, piston and been re-sleeved by Ron at Fahron engineering, near Leicester.the front forks have been hard chromed and fitted with new seals.New falcon piggyback shocks have been used instead of the original Ohlins, which were totally shot. The frame and hubs were shotblasted and powder coated. The wheels were fitted with Spanish Morad gold anodized rims and stainless spokes. All the plastics were supplied by John at vintage husky and the engine mounts by Philip at Husqvarna-parts.com,the exhaust is an American masterpiece from Pro-Form Racing which i blasted and painted. The bike was built for my elder brothers son to Race in next years twinshock championship, but he has just started a new job overseas.Due to breaking my back in a work accident, i am not able to race anymore so rebuilding bikes is the next best thing.Regards to everyone Stuart

Outstanding restoration. It looks better than new! Finding a 1976 360 CR to restore is on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Thats my project for next year.Bought a 76 360 Mikkola replica 18 months ago but will update pictures as the rebuild progresses.

the front forks have been hard chromed Stuart

That's great... too bad you're across the pond, though. I have just about called all over the U.S. and can't seem to find anyone who will chrome a fork tube. Even called some custom fork builders and they're not interested in chroming anything but their own stuff.

So what did they do? Remove the old chrome or just prep and chrome over the top?

And very nice job on one of Husky's best looking bikes ever. 430!!!

Hi James, the forks are ground down, pickled, then re-chromed.the fork legs are then ground back to their original size.Generally the re-chroming process is better than when they were originally made.A.M PHILPOT HARD CHROMING,LUTON,BEDFORDSHIRE,the cost was £120.00 plus shipping.

Stuart, Try Gary's Grinding in Ontario, CA (909) 947-3636.
I've never used him, but I've heard he does a lot of work for Maico's Only.
Let us know if it works out.

I called Gary's Grinding yesterday and sure enough they'll do our fork tubes. Talked to a guy (not Gary but I'm sorry I can't remember his name) who has been with the business for a long time and he was very knowledgeable. We even talked about final O.D. of the chrome tubes and possibly getting a less sloppy fit into the lower leg bushings. He can finish them to whatever O.D. we request. He was also 'certain' that their product would be better quality than the original. Thanks for the info, CafeHusky dudes!

He said it's job-by-job pricing, and it depends on how long the tubes are (more chrome, more grinding) and whether they have to straighten or whatever. But basically about $135-$175 per tube. Not cheap, but it sounds like a thorough job. Especially since they straighten them up first. If you've ever checked, these 40mm tubes are not very straight, and not very strong. They bend easily even in normal use. I've got several bent pairs. It's slight, some builders might not check or notice, but I think it's pretty important.

Cracking resto Stu. That is a credit to you.
Funnily enough, my mate Wayne was round earlier. He lived in Frodsham for donkey's years. If you ever remember a guy who used to live and breath Fiesta Mk1 Supersports. Then that's him.

Here are a few pictures of my 81 430.the bike has been totally rebuilt from the ground up,nothing has been left to spare,View attachment 11220View attachment 11221View attachment 11222View attachment 11223 hope you get as much enjoyment out of the pictures as i did out of the rebuild.

Superb looking bike mate... :applause:if I'm going to be anal I don't like the modern gold rims...but that's only a minor criticism.

I've got my '82 430 in bits at the moment....the gearbox took a bit of a battering from Dave Thorpe at Farleigh this year. Him and Dickie Dye rode it for charity and did 10 races on her...poor girl.

Engine is being done by my old man who worked for Husqvarna so I'm expecting a top job... In the pic the wheels are like yours. I've managed to get a pair of almost brand new Nordisk rims to go on her rather than the Jap ones....I'll post some more pics once I get going on her.
