• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1974 Mag 250 Clutch Plates

Same plates as the early 4 speed stuff... usually some advertised on evilbay.. surflex is the brand I see advertised most..

Forrest Stahl or Vintage Husky. They will not be OEM but they work fine. I am using them now. Vintage Husky also has the metal plates. I can't remember if the are steel or aluminum. You can check Huskyjunk.com also. I have use all three of these dealers with good success. If you buy them from Forrest, don't forget to get more lock tabs as yours might break. Jeff

I don't use lock tabs... I just use a nyloc nut.. I also use a sleeve/ spacer like on the 75 and later clutches.. it goes inside the spring and you just do the nut up until it bottoms on the spacer / sleeve .. no more fiddling with level plates etc..

I need to ask a basic question...
Can someone explain the difference in the clutch between a Mag 250 CR and a 1975 Mag 250 WR?
I noticed when I did a refresh on my recently acquired 75 Mag 250 WR that it had the same size clutch as my old 125 WR...except the metal plates were aluminum.
I swapped them for some still-good-condition spare steel plates from the 125 spares box.
My rational being a bit of extra rotational weight being better for woods riding...we'll see...easy to swap back...

So...is the Mag 250 CR clutch different?
And having the dimensions of those spacers would be excellent...

Thanks

Yes, the '75-up engines had the same clutch until the primary kick engines of '81 for the 430 and '82 for the 250. The '74 Mag uses the older style clutch.

I have the 75 wr 250. It is AHRMA legal because it is like design to the 74 cr 250. The wr has lighting coil ,6 speed gear box, little bit different exhaust and the same clutch as the 74 cr. I have ordered plates and asked for the 74 cr 250 mag plates. I got what I needed. I later ordered an extra set to have as a back up. One set came from Forest Stahl, the other from vintage Husky. I ordered 74 cr 250 mag plates each time. Forest Stahl was cheaper. The 75 WR is not primary kick. The wr did not get big changes until 76. Steel plates are yes , heavier. But with aluminum plates your basket is most likely in great shape. Steel plates will over a period of time beat up the basket. BTW the 74 cr 250 and 75 wr 250 use the same clutch. Jeff

Jeff...good point about the aluminum plates being easier on the clutch basket!
I think I'll pull it apart...size up some of those sleeve spacers...reinstall the alum plates, and fit nylocks instead of the tabs.
All good suggestions.
