• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My Cat Says AREAR!
Finally found a 2023 360 motor. Just no head, cylinder or piston. Can I use a 76/77 cylinder and head on this lower. I can't seem to find one for the 1973/4/5 years. Thanks Chris

Thanks Auto but I have 2 450 motors, but I would be interested in a low number 450 MJ frame for my 2021 0008 motor. Got the new 2023 motor from a great guy in Missouri. Now the search for the cylinder, and head. Husqvarna-parts has pistons. So I was wondering if the later parts would work on my old motor with or without modification.

I'm not sure that newer top end will fit. The rt has the big cases. I have a 73 rt as you can see by my pic to the left.

So the large case 360 ended in 1975? Looks like I'm gonna have to be very patient. I just cruzed online and saw a cylinder and head pretty cheap but they are for the 75/77 years. does that compute?

I think 73 may have been the last of the bigger cases. I have a 75 wr250 and it has the smaller cases. I'm sure the 74 mag had the same as my 75

The 450 and 360 were the new generation 5 speed "Big Motor". They had larger cases then the 250-400. They say they made RTs up to 75 but most were left overs form 73. I have a 360 and 250 Rt if have any other questions.

The 360 RT definitely won't accept the later year cylinders. Ironically though the 360RT will accept the 72 - 75 450 cylinder as the stud patterns are the same (see pics) and I think the RT case opening for the barrel sleeve is the same as the 450. But all this 450 to 360 exchange stuff is of no value to you because the stroke differs.

Come to think about it the 360RT also accepts the 69 - 74 400 cross piston. You may find this useful when shopping a piston.

Since the stud patterns are the same and the sleeves are the same OD, I think a 450 head fits a 360RT barrel too. But the issue of the crush depth comes into question.

72 - 73 360RT barrel on the left (6mm hole in the sleeve was a for a compression release HVA never fully implemented)
and 73 450 barrel on the right.

Below in the foreground is a 360RT I restored and sold to the Moto Armory.

The 1974 250WR and 400WR and 1975 400WR were the last large large case engines before becoming fully superceded by the GP based MAG and GP Crs introduced in 1975

I have a 360 cyl and head but I think it's 4 speed I'm in SJ if you want to take a ride down and check it out

Thanks guys, I guess in the end I'll need a year specific 1973 cylinder and head. Crash that bike is beautiful, way beyond what I'll do to mine. Auto how far south, supposed to dump tomorrow.

Don't forget the 460. Ha, kind of funny HVA would come out with a 460 motorcycle that had the same 450 engine they had been selling since 72. I always thought it was Huskys last attempt at unloading a larger than expected inventory of 450 components.

All the four speed oval case models ended in 71, the five speed 360 RT was sold 72 - 73, and the six speed 360 GP was sold in 75 - 76. Does that cover your question?

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be searching for only 72/73. Just what I needed another obscure project. Uhgg. If anyone has a cylinder and head, I'm interested. Thanks everyone. Chris

Someone is selling a head for 70s 250 or 360, looks like it has 4 holes for studs. Anyone know the measurement difference of the cylinder relief between these two? I'd like to have the seller measure so I don't end up with the wrong part.

well, at least you will known as "obscure husky master"! impressive!
perhaps if you get another husky it could be a 250, or a later 430 :p
