  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

13/48 Gearing for TE310?

AA Class
Hello Guys,

Ready to make the stock 2012 TE310 ready for tight sandy trails here in NJ. Currently the bike has the stock 13/40 combo. I checked out many gearing combos using the website http://www.gearingcommander.com/ and seem to like the 13/48 combo as it seems to be a good trade off for trails and some roadwork. I ride a few miles on 50 mph hr roads on occassion and need better gearing down low on the trails. Anyone have this combo? How do I know how many links I need to buy for a new chain wit the 13/48 combo? Will the lower gearing also help with the efi jitters at low throttle settings? Or do I need a re-map.

I'm not sure how accurate that site is. I put in my 12/52 gearing and it says I will hit 82.3mph at 11700rpm. Actual speed at that rpm is a little less than 60mph. I found 13/50 wasn't low enough for the tight stuff I ride. I soon went 12/50, then 12/52, which is just right for real steep mountain single track. I can dead start on some pretty steep stuff. It just eats up logs and other nasty stuff too. If you can maintain momentum, 13/50 is definitely doable, but I am no superstar.

I was at the stock 13/50 with the power up kit. I switched to 13/47 to get a little more top end speed without having to wind out the motor as much in the open areas and on the road to keep up with the 450s and 500s I ride with. It didn't negatively affect the bike in the slow techincal stuff in 1st and 2nd gear. I'd say it's a good overall happy medium.
