  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey all I'm in a rock n a hard place between the 511 or the 630?
Reason being I want more hp n the 630 is just a little soft for me and from what I've found there is no bb kits or anything besides pipe n little mods for it. The 511 can get a 530 kit etc if need be but right out of the box the 511 has more hp then the 630 so???

Just don't want to be kicking myself when I pull the trigger on the 630 when I should've just bought the 511.

I'll just be using it for the streets n canyons. At most I drive 40miles one way on my commutes but can the big single handle this? With proper oil n filter changes of course n valve check n changes??

Any current 510/511 owners that have racked up some good mileage with no problems?

Or should I stay away from them n just get the 630 n deal w it?

Thanks

There is no 530 kit for the 511 (there is for the 510 which is an entirely different motor). The 511 with a pipe and JD tuner I bet would hang or be faster than a 630 up to where the gearing takes over for the 630.

My TE 449 will rip the face off my Kawi 650 ER6n in a drag race to 45 MPH. Ask me how I know.

I have a 511 SMR and its been fine, so far 900 miles and no problems i had the Akrapovic and it makes plenty of power for the road, it all depends on your yearly mileage and how much your willing to pay out.

I had a 630 and overall I'd have to rate the bike a disappointment ... it was slow, heavy and had lots of mechanical issues. The bike was unrideable until the TE630 power up kit was installed and after that the bike ran fine but was never very powerfull. Longevity was unknown because I sold the bike with 1,400 miles on it. I've never ridden the 511 but it looks full moto so the comfort factor might be an issue.

The new dealer here in Utah said there was some sort of hop up kit for the 511 (BB kit I think), But they couldn't confirm what it actually was. Do you have any knowledge on that?

I've got a SMR511 with about 700 miles on the clock, no problems so far it runs like a dream.
I use it most days for commuting but a much shorter distance than you propose.
Engine is powerful and revs very quickly even with stock quiet exhaust.
However it is really a race engine and therefore I find it does not like being held at constant revs such as in traffic or on a dual carriageway at speed.
It will do it but it doesn't feel comfortable, so I find myself going up and down the box a lot, avoiding major roads and overtaking where I wouldn't haven't dreamed of on my old bike.
The seat is hard and thin like a racing bicycle, but you rear will get used to it after a while.

Don't get me wrong I love my SMR511 and would recommend to anyone...
But to be honest, if I was doing a daily 30/40 mile commute I would buy a cheap jap bike with the £$ reserved for tuning and use the SMR511 for shorter ride outs.
In addition, the tank is so small you would be filling up with petrol every day!

+1 to that! totally agree especially on the petrol matter, i get 80-85 miles out of a tank, better then my ktm 625 smc! get a drz if you want a motard for commuting, if not get a bandit and have a SMR511 as a toy.
