  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

09 TE310 Oil Recommendations

I'm sure this has been discussed in the past but I couldn't find it anywhere so here goes.
I purchased an 09 TE310 recently and it's time for her first oil change. I live in NJ (Temperature is all over the place here). I called a local dealer and they said 15W 50 is probably best for all year riding. They didn't say Full Synthetic, Semi Synthetic or non.
I have a friend who I trust and he said he uses Spectro Golden 4 Semi Syn. It's near impossible to find that Viscosity even though they make it. Found 1 dealer J&P and they say 2-3 weeks to ship (ugg).

I have heard mixed comments about full syn causing clutch issues (no personal experience). So anyone have any good suggestions? I love my new bike. The most effortless to ride bike in the woods, I've owned. But I want to make sure I treat the engine good. (BTW not gonna do the diesel oil thing, saw posts that diesel oil is being overhauled and newer stuff is not so good. Thanks for all your comments in advance.

Full or semi synthetic, neither will effect your clutch. Needs to be ##w50 for the 310, lower number in front is better. Mobil1 and Amsoil are great choices, Motul, Motorex, which ever fits your budget. Not Golden Spectro (haha).

Thanks for your replies. All great suggestions. I have to believe if fully synthetic doesn't affect the clutch in a TE 450 (rode one and it's crazy torquey) as mentioned above, I can't imagine my little guy will have issues. Thanks
