  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

09 TE 450 with FMF Q4 pipe

Husqvarna
C Class
I bought it last week. It runs okay but has no real instant grunt

and back fires alot. It appears to lag then come on strong but to late for me. What is the best way to approach this? Check mapping? Too lean maybe? air fuel mixture? Go back to stock pipe? Change gear ratio? It is stock 47 rear and 13-14 front.
The bike was converted to race mode or power mode.

I like it alot but more instant grunt. Front up and hanging on I guess.

My 10 TE450 does not have instant grunt, it comes on the pipe at about 7000 RPM, and then it flies, but as a trail bike, it ain't the best.

Sounds like you need to take it to the dealer and get them to sort the EFI out so that the TPS is correctly calibrated and that you have enough fuel being delivered down low.

I am heading to the dealer that sold the bike as new. They are going to check out the EFI mapping and compare it to the stock Arrow pipe. I may change the rear and front sprocket. What is the the best setup.

OlderHuskyRider- My bike does come on strong at high revs but I need and want to bring the front end up to get over trees and jump level off of drops. The other day I went to lift the front end and the bike lagged. The log that I was trying to get over was big and the picture became ugly

as I departed the Husky over the bars. It was probably just me but reattempted the log with a WRF 450 and the front went up and over I rode. The steering dampner may have held the front alittle more steady but the power was there when requested. In the end it could just me and my style but at the young age of 48

I don't want to come off to often.

Thanks for your replies

i think your riding style and where you ride needs to be mentioned before we can offer best gearing for you.if your riding places are very technical or your skill level not too strong my guess is you will want something like a 50t rear sprocket which will require a longer chain.from my experience, most 450/510 trail riders do not like a 12t front sprocket.dan

I like technical riding as well as wide open spaces desert and beaches. I use to race and did alright but an expert I am not. I believe that I am a good solid rider. I plan to ride in all kinds of terrain but enjoy technical mountian riding.

I am picking up the bike tomorrow after an adjustment to the EFI mapping,(Air Fuel Ratio). I hope this improves the lower end torque and decreases the lag. If not the next step will be to try the Stock pipe after that gearing I guess.

I am learning EFI and Huskies. I was a Honda, Can-am, and Yamaha ride before this one.

I will ride it tomorrow afternoon provide that it does not snow.

my guess is 13/49 or 50 should work for most of that kind of riding.probably be a bit short in the desert.surprised the bike would be running worse with the Q.keep us posted on your findings.dan

I am using 13/50 gearing for the riding I enjoy high in the mountains. The bike rides in the power all the time and is snappy. Top speed is around 70mph at 8000rpm's, 45mph is 6000-6200 with stock exhaust TE can. I would like to read on how you like the FMF pipe.

The bike was has been setup for the FMF Q pipe. It flies now. The dealer adjusted the ECU with Ibeat and but the latest firmware for that year of bike. He said the firmware was for the 2010. It runs alot better with no backfiring and sounds nice. I will do a little more riding before I think about the gearing. I put about 150 km on it since the tune up. The riding was in the wet. The trail was covered with wet logs and mud holes. I filmed the day with a Gopro, it should be fun viewing. One hill climb didn't go so well, plastic now has some marks. I did notice that my age and mind and not tuned yet. Had a blast.
