  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

09 smr510 stalling

I just picked up an 09 smr 510 the other day and I love it love it.
the only problem is that it tends to stall when stopping at the lights sometimes and was warned by the previous owner.
it happens when just about to stop following some exuberant throttle with a POP from the exhaust before it stalls.

my thought is that its too lean.
it has a k&n filter with a open unrestricted box
it has a stock double exhaust but the previous owned said its has been de baffled
and the O2 sensor has been removed from the header and plugged up /wiring done too
however he did not know if it has been remapped which is what it may be im thinking?
how can you know if a bike has been mapped? do I have to take it to the dealer?

im also planning on getting a jd/power commander. is it necessary for this bike? it has plenty of power so its not to get more horses but I just want the bike to be running right.

here is a pic of the beast

You either need to remap it with Ibeat, the proprietary software for Mikuni or use a JDTuner type of software to richen it up, it will run the best if its getting about 35mpg.

that's what I thought its too lean. so how can you tell if its been mapped? is there something to look for on the bike?
and whats the Ibeat I searched it but cant fine it

Ibeat is the program the dealers should have to make adjustments to your ECM. No way to tell if it has been done since its mapping. Behind your headlight there is a plug that is for connecting to the Ibeat. You can also purchase it yourself

I am having the same problem with flame-out style pop when coming to a stop or a quick deceleration. It doesn't seem to matter if the bike has been running for 1 minute or 25. Once this happens it takes two or three short attempts to start it, with the bike running briefly and dieing. If I baby the throttle this seems better, but sometimes, I am simply downshifting through the gears as I approach a stoplight.

Mine is a 2009 FI SMR450, with the Air sensor removed, and the SEL1 program shows up. The other strange news is I only get 29 mpg on the freeway.

Let me know your solution.

What does your plug look like? Pull the plug after running at speed for awhile and take a pic. it sounds like you might be running too rich, and carbon fouling the plug

we seem to have a similar problem, but I think the problems are unrelated. simply because mine does not become difficult to restart after it stalls.

anyway I took mine to my husky dealer and he seems to have sorted it.
he plugged it into this computer and said the mapping had not been changed from stock but said the water temp sensor had failed and this could relate to it stalling. so he put in a new sensor (electric plug thing with a wire and plugs into the engine)
plus he said it needed to be idling a little higher.
I can now rev the shit out of it with good intent and it wont stall. Much better (have not ridden it though)
when I asked about the mapping being too lean he said it was not necessary for remapping (rich-ening) so I dunno about that!?
I guess theirs no point getting a powercommander for just 2 extra horses
in hind sight I think that just making the idle higher would have fixed it.

I think our problems are unrelated, OHR also might be right however I could be wrong. maybe try adjust the idle could work. Good luck let us know your fix please

btw how do you like you crf 450 I was going to motard a crf but ended getting the 510 instead because its better for the road I thought.

btw the SEL1 program always shows up for just 1 seconds when starting
don't know about mpg ive only ridden my bike once
