  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

08 TE450 Clutch issue

B Class
Hey all,

Went to start my bike this morning and the clutch doesn't seem to disengage whatsoever. I changed the oil last night (Motul 10w60) as I have done every 8-10 hours since i've had it (3 times now, 126hrs on the bike total). Went out for a decent ride. Went to move the bike this morning, and could only do so in neutral. In gear, with the clutch pulled in all the way, it wouldn't release at all. I only had time to do a quick visual of the fluid level which looked okay, but I had to get to work in a hurry. All I can think of is to bleed the clutch, but I'm new to hydraulic clutches so I'm not sure if that is going to help my issue. Hoping someone can shed some light on the situation. Thanks.

Also should be noted that when I first changed the oil upon purchase of the bike, the oil that came out didn't appear synthetic. I have not changed the clutch plates. Could going from a non synth to full synth cause the plates to stick for the first time after 3 changes?

Get the X ring seal from up-tite and rebuild the slave cylinder. I doubt it is clutch plates. I have had to rebuild both on my 08TE450, owned since new, never replaced clutch plates/discs and it has over 380 hours on it.

Read up on the x ring seal and it seems to have fixed the problem I'm facing. So thank you. Also read that the 7602 piston is a necessary upgrade. Any thoughts on that? Issue is, though it is a cheap fix, I'm in Canada, making getting the parts a very lengthy process. Can I rebuild the cylinder with a generic o ring for the time being?

Not sure, I can check when I get home. What are your thoughts if the answer is yes?

In my case, like others, the Magura master cylinder has defects in the bore, I spent $100 on 2 rebuild kits before I found out about the defects. The master cylinder sweats out tiny amounts of fluid and if not replenished, I eventually got a bubble of air in the line and boom, no clutch. Bleed it off and top up the fluid, I was good to go and remain there to this day. I put about 15 drops of baby oil in it every 2nd or 3rd ride.
