  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

08 smr 510 no start

hello every one
i have an 08 smr 510 with roughly 4000 miles on it. (the screens broken so exact milage is beyond me) any how it has an arrow exhaust with the o2 block off. i had the valves adjusted at 3500 mi. the bike never gave me a problem before but i was on a 2 hour ride made it to my destination the bike didnt skip a beat. went to go home she started rite up idled for a few minets while i was getting ready and than got me about 20 feet before it quit on me. i hear the fuel pump cycle when i turn the key on, but it seems like its not getting any spark i tried a new plug and nuthing. any suggestion for things to try or replace whould be appreciated.

It is possible the fuel pump became loose from where it is supposed to be in the tank, and even though there seems to be enough fuel the pump cannot get any. Or spark?

I would fill up the tank and see if that helps.

If that did not help I would pull the spark plug, put the cap back on, hold the outside of the plug against the engine, then turn it over to see if there is any spark. Basically "test for spark".

i did put more gas in it first than i did test the spark rite there on the scene. the gas didnt make a diffrence and i got no spark. i knew enough to do that. but know im not sure where to go from there

Well, since my other suggestions take more time, and possibly $, I will let other people give their input for the moment.

If you no one answers you, feel free to post again so I will notice it.

thank you for the advice. im open to any suggestions. the price of diesel is killing me so the money i spend on parts will make up for the money i spend on fuel every day, and the fact that i cant ride the bike when its 100+degees stinks too

Check for good connection from the plug wire to the coil. Also easy to check all the wires at the module on the rt side of the frame just under the gas tank.

i checked every wire i could find today.. no bare spots no loose connections. i checked the fuel pump and it was still seated properly. is it possible the coil it self went bad? or the ecu? are there other common things for me to check that i may have over looked? i would like to try and figure this out without the dealer if at all possible

I don't think the ecu would be bad since the electrical system still turns on and the pump cycles.. Is there any way to test the coil? Not sure if its a resistance reading required, but I think you're on the right track looking at that

Ya, use a multi-meter. You'll be looking for a certain range of ohms. Look up on Google, I think that's where I found out how to test em. Wish I remembered the details for ya.. sorry!
