  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey guys.

First off I am a idiot when it comes to anything mechanical
Ive had my bike for about 1 1/2 years and it has been bullet proof.
I am religious about changing the oil and air filter but have kind of been lazy with the rest.

Just wondering what you guys do for a major overhaul before the new season begins.
Aside from a bunch of goodies I am putting on, here is my list of things to do.

Check valves
Bleed breaks
Lube steering stem, front and rear axles, suspension linkage.
Clutch?????
Clean the carb????
Check all bolts.
Check frame for cracks.

Thanks for the help. Any other ideas or helpful info would be great.

Dave

Depend on how much you rode and what conditions you ride in. My opinion.

Check valves
Bleed brakes
If your steering stem feels notchy replace bearings don't try to lube
If your clutch doesn't slip leave it alone
Remove subframe, shock, check swingarm and linkage bearings (probably need replaced) then check carb for dirt if dirty clean it.
Check wheel bearings wheel spacers (side to side motion)
Look bike over for cracks, check bolts, etc.

Sure i'm missing something but others will chime in. Have Fun!

Change oil in the suspension. At least once a year. I only have 4000 miles on my bike and they haven't been the hardest miles in the world, so I am going to overhaul the shock and fork fluid pretty soon.

Pull the stator cover and remove the ferrous material.

Install a new clutch slave O-ring, upgrade to an Uptite X-ring or spring for an Evoluzione slave when Ken Zeller finishes beta testing 'em.

I learned the hard way on my last bike. I currently have my bike in pieces and just did that...good reminder!

I don't know if you know this or not. I think some people don't. When you change your oil, you need to clean the 2 filter screen on the left side of the engine. Be careful & don;t overtorque the cap bolts whe reinstalling. They are too soft and will easily wring-off. You mentioned the filter, but not the screens, so I thought this might be new info. If not, please forgive the superflous input.
