    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

First post, hello everyone :)

Here for some advice. I have heard about an early TE 250 that stopped working many years ago, and it's original owner still has it at the back of his warehouse. By the sound of it, the bike had not done much work before it broke.

Two questions:

1. Any common problems with the '03 TE 250 that might have caused the engine to stop running ?

2. Are parts still easily available for this model ? (I'm in the UK)


If the owner will accept a low price, it could be a fun project. At the same time, if it's likely to run away on parts costs, or likely economically impossible to fix, I'll give it a miss.

My vague recollection is that the valves are not as durable as the 2005+ TE250's. Nothing terrible, just not quite as durable. That is second hand information based on what other have typed in the past.

As far as parts, these days the world is your shopping cart. Parts & accessories are often shipped world wide. I have not heard any difficulties in getting parts.. and if people cannot get parts for their bike, they generally tend to tell others about that.
 
03/04 TEs had narrow valve stems which were upgraded on 05 models. If the bike was revved hard then they tended to suffer valve stretch but this was more common on 450s than 250s.

Other than that nothing springs to mind. Parts still generally available and currently there is a 20% discount offer on until December!

Yes, I've spoken to a few people familiar with these engines, and it seems that valves are a common issue. Calculated a budget based on worst case scenario, so I'll go take a look and report back if it comes home with me. Must say that I have been impressed by the enthusiasm and helpfulness of people associated with husqvarna in the UK.
