  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Big shout out to the great people at Bills. Going on a big ride this coming weekend and the 02 CR250 was feeling loose and abused. I bought it as a $900 CL special and never popped the motor open and continued to ride the crap out of it for months. Ran strong but had a lot of piston noise and could see good blow by when I look up the exhaust hole. Anyway Bills came through ASAP as usual with a shinny new piston and rings, gaskets, and new air boot. Awesome service as usual. Slapped it all together and were ready to start the thrashing again.

Cylinder looked very good. Piston was semi hammered.

Got the PV stuff all cleaned up. It was working but had a lot of drag. Free as can be now. Even put a little maxilube on the PV gears. Smooth as butter.

Rod and lower end felt great. These are crazy durable motors.

Ready to drop it back on, little maxilube here too. Sure made the pin slide into the piston nice and the cylinder onto the piston.

Kelly - How did you get the power valve parts so clean? Unbolt and take apart?

If you do that, is there adjustment you have to remember when reassembling?

I just used brake cleaner on mine while all was still in place. Not nearly as clean as yours, though.

I did not take the linkage apart cuz these are complicated and messy. It was dirty but still free. I use oileater (my new favorite cleaner and non toxic/non etching) to clean the crap out of it. Everything came out nice and clean and moves very easy. Put Maxilube on the gears and made it butter smooth.

Just rode it around to get a heat cycle in it. Much quieter, kicks harder and runs great. Will see on a real ride if the reed block changed anything but will be kinda hard to tell as it has a new piston too.

old piston had a bunch of blow by but still ran hard.

Motosportz, Why is the con rod shiny silver along it & on top of the little end? Just wondering if you lightened it or polished it or what? Who sells oil eater?

Not sure, I didn't touch it. My other husky 250 rids looked like that too I believe. I think they come that way.

Miss scott all of the time.

Only met and rode with Scott a few times but can see how he would leave a long lasting impression. Seemed like a really good person and sure had a good time. That guy flat beat the shit out of bikes.

- Great vid thanks for posting that, always worth seeing.
