Sounds pretty cool really ... Lots of biker oriented stuff promoted and family fun .... Not sure on the routes but doing a no-brainer ride is a well received ride for me when I find one ... -- Out of curiosity, why is the ama involved here?
My thoughts as well. If they simply called it a fundraising event for the ama (or brc, etc) then I would be more tempted. *please* keep in mind that I am not familiar with these types of things, at all.
I am no expert with clubs or the why's... AMA has many guidelines a club has to meet to have an event sanctioned by AMA. Insurance I would think is less expensive as well?? http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/ClubsAndPromoters/Resources.aspx I would guess a big reason is for the event to be listed on the AMA-sanctioned calendar which this even is not . http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/events/search/results.aspx?state=CA&t=RECREATION&c=DUR&d=All
dunno about the rest of it, but the founder was starting up that company... maybe 2006? At least that is what he said on some yahoo user groups I was a member of. http://familyoffroadadventures.com/staff
This event is part of the AMA Yamaha National Adventure Riding Series. I've never attended it myself, but I hear it's a very good time. I just don't see the need since it is in "my backyard" and I can ride all those routes for free any time I wish. In fact, one of my favorite routes is an all-dirt route into Yosemite National Park and if you leave the park the same way there is no entrance fee! That picture of half-dome on the Family Offroad Adventures website banner in the link above is taken from that road. This area is far and away one of the best riding areas in the world, both in the fun-factor of the roads and the scenery. It's worth the trip if you are not from around here and they will show you the best of the best!
