• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Why can't I get my bars straight?

I can't seem to align the handlebar mounts. I guess they must be effed. I haven't had any hard crashes just a few low speed dumps.

Are you using risers at all, they both need to be seated the same way, I had a similar till I found my mistake

you're talking about how the risers are offset? They're both in the same orientation.

Maybe I should reverse one to correct it

Your forks may be twisted in the triple-clamp mounts. Loosen off the triple clam bolts holding the forks (just loosen them, not too much) then secure the front wheel and twist the bars in a jerking motion to get the forks/handlebars lined up properly. Once you're done, don't forget to re-tighten the triple clamp bolts so your forks are secure again.

I've had to do this a few times after having high-speed get-offs. Quick and easy and a damned side cheaper than having to get new bars!

I agree and have tried that method. As you can see the mount's won't line up with the top triple clamp. I've loosened them and the fork pinch bolts then racked the bars.

I've got it closer but it's still out. The bars only want to twist so much, then nothing. Maybe I should swap the handlebar mounts from either side and see if that changes things.

Thanks for the advice.

Take the top half of the handlebar clamp off and check if it is twisted. Place it on something flat to check.

No matter how straight your fork, triple clamps and lower part of your handlebar clamps are... If the top is twisted, you'll never get your handlebars mounted straight.

They are hard to re-straighten. Give it a go but buying a new one is much easier.

OK, I see what you mean now. Dunno if you know this but there are rubbers between the mounts and the triple clamps that allow the mounts to move a little. I damaged mine quite badly when I crashed and broke my collarbone - ended up getting aluminium bar mount bushings from BRP (http://www.brpmoto.com/products?pag...page.pbv.tpl&product_id=2125&category_id=1554) to replace them.

What you might want to try first is inspecting them. If they look OK, then try loosening the bar mount bolts and again seeing if you can twist the bars to line up properly, then tightening them again. If the rubbers are stuffed though you might need to get some of these aluminium bushings to replace them and that will hopefully sort your problem out.

Do you think those would fit an '08 cr 125/45mm zokes?

I can't find anything wrong with the rubber inserts/handlebar clamps/or bars really. Somethings def. tweaked though. I can't really bring myself to believe the handlebar mounts would be twisted. They're pretty burly.

But you could be right, looking at the pic the only logical answer seems to be that the mounts aren't seating right...

how badly do you notice this when riding? try get off the other side to straighten, if its no major bother i would be tempted to leave it, but definatly looks like the bar clamps twisted.

Take the two big bolts out of the clamps that hold them to the triple tree and take the bent one and put it in a vice. Now that its in a vice smash it with a hammer till straight. Very common issue or you can buy a new bolt. Most used bikes you buy will have hammer and vice marks on those bolts if you take them out.

These pics are from an old post here: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/2010-te250-power-up-and-protection-and-my-introduction.17845/page-2

My top clamp plate was twisted similar to the pic below after a crash. I tried to straighten it but it was difficult. Check this plate and the mounting bolts.

I replaced the bolts no dice. I will check the top mounting clamp. Maybe I can swap to separate top caps if that's the issue. Makes sense I dunno why that didn't dawn on me. Thanks!

Edit: yep that's it, twisted about as bad as the one in your picture

Seemed to miss boogie's post but he was spot on as well

Boogie nailed it. I had the same twist issue, twice. A quick fix it so take a hack saw and cut out the two center cross bars to that your two top clamps are independent of each other. Also double check to make sure your two bolts are not bent.

Brp racing has aluminum inserts to replace the rubber ones in the top clamp. Do not cut the top bar clamp in half, the bars will twist easier. Its one piece for a reason. I used the brp inserts and drilled them to accept a bigger bolt. The head of the bolt didnt fit exactly, but it worked great! The top clamp is cheap $$ and adds strength.

We now use the BRP individual clamps with no ill effects. Cutting the top clamp worked just fine for us for months. The top clamp that comes stock is weak, we went through 4 of them, 3 without crashes, just hits.

god this has been driving my ass crazy on my dads wr250.

just emailed him the pics. i'm betting thats the problem.

thanks!!

I must have done something different, when i cut the top clamp there was no strength left.

I've been running with the center cross bars cut out of my top clamp for 3 years and have had plenty of crashes. I've tweaked the bars but a swift jab with the palm of your hand and they straighten up. I'll post a picture tonight.
