Back in the day I worked at Husky West as the parts manager when Kevin rode for them. I'll never forget once when he came out to our offices and wanted to experience our desert. I was no pro but I was a desert racer so I figured I'd show him the way around. I got schooled. I'd never ridden so fast just trying to follow HIM! I was amazed at his line selection and ability to read the terrain at speed. And this from a tight, twisty enduro guy.
If memory serves me well that "tight, twisty enduro guy" raced Whiskey Pete's Hare & Hound at State Line Nevada a number of years ago and finished top 10. He also raced the SCORE Baja 1000 2 times that I am aware of. Once with Dan Smith on a KTM and another time with Chris Haines on an XR 650r. Top finishes both times. Seems that those enduro guys know what the main jet is for...
spotted this 2010 article that is just brilliant, Hines the old enduro woods racer using his moto skill set to go from last to first. https://www.cxmagazine.com/kevin-hines-report-masters-worlds
