  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What powers up the CDI?

J-train

Husqvarna
AA Class
As many of you may have read my other posts, I am having a no spark issue.
I have tried about everything, r/r ed about everything besides the Stator and wiring itself (howver I have pinned for continuity all the wires involved with the ignition system. The statir tests just fine acordign to the manual, but as it is the last thing left to replace, I have to suspect it. In particular there are two wires in the diagram that concern me, there is a Red and a Green that go directly to the CDI. I suspect they power it, but which one, what voltage, etc. the manual does not say. here is the diagram, someone tell me the red powers the CDI with 12V from the stator and I could just verify this by jumping 12V off the battery to the CDI.

The only thing for sure is that voltage is AC. Don't jump DC off your battery. Which wire is power obviously is not clear, can you crank it and measure what you get out of the stator?

You will notice that there are 4 wires to the CDI. 3 are for 3 phase AC power and the fourth will be a ground wire. I will have a look at you other posts. A no spark issue should be easy to track down without having to replace everything. Cam.

Red appears to be common for power throughout the circuits. If I was troubleshooting it, I would assume it.
It can be proved with a quality multi meter, as it will show polarity, even with AC. I

s what I know for sure goign into from the CDI, red/black & red/white are striat from the exciter coil on the stator, they are meant to charge the capacitor in the CDI. I have measured AC coming out of these two wires as 10VAC with the starter motor spinning the engine.
The red and the green wire come directly off of the pick up coil sensor in the stator cover. They directly feed the CDI to tell it when to discharge the capacitor and provide a path to the coile via the brown/white wire. I tested at the red and green wire off the stator harness and got no VAC. I have been told this is a very small charge AC, like 1 or les VAC. So I am not 100% sure my chinzy meter is reading that correctly. I really hate to spend 350$ to replace the stator and then have that not be it. I have checked the wiring it self and all easily changed components ( I bought a stockpile off ebay)
