What is different about the TE310 upgraded starter gears?

    I've read that the upgraded starter gears for the TE310 are hardened. Are they also a different gear ratio?

    The starter ring gear on mine is chewed up from the sprag and I'm wondering if I have to replace the worm drive gear as well. The teeth on both look brand new and the worm gear is another $130.

    Mine's a 2013 TE310R if that makes a difference.
