• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Water in gas tank from filler neck?

Just did a 1500 mile weekend trip. The te-630 ran great but I had two problems so i'm looking for answers here. 1st problem, when riding in the rain, water pools up around the gas cap so when i remove the fuel cap water runs into my tank? Is the drain tube stopped up ? 2nd problem, when i have a full tank of gas the bike runs rough (i.e. stumbles at part trottle) untill it gets down to about 3/4 full then it runs great, any ideas on that?? Could the two be related? I wonder about the one way valve in the gas overflow line (maybe its not working right)? Can i just remove the valve and have a open vent line? Bike has power up and canister removed by dealer...

The drain hole under the gas cap is not positioned at the lowest point. There is a recession around the entire perimeter of the filler neck plate. It fills with water and cannot get out the drain hole. When you put bike on sidestand to fill up with gas all the water puddles on one side making it possible to slosh into tank opening. If you have just washed your bike or out in the rain I suggest you fill your tank while sitting on bike keeping it level so less chance of water sloshing into tank. I also had came up with an idea to stuff rubber window screen spline into that recession so water could not acculmulate as much. Should work however I replaced my tank with a Safari prior to trying this out.

Is the drain tube even on it???? Some came plugged from the factory...... The one at the top that is visible is the "vent" the drain hole is under and back from there..... some had a screw where the fitting and drain tube should be....

Thanks for the reminder! Been a long time on my to-do list, but kept forgetting. You're right there's a short bolt plugging the drain line :excuseme: :
DSC_0059.JPG Mine had dirt and sediment caked inside. A piece of wire cleared it out, but a pipe cleaner would've made it easier.
Now she drains nice.

So are we talking about the small bolt below the gas vent tube hookup?? Looks like a allen head bolt in your pic..

I am in need of some advice on this issue. The drain hole under the gas cap is a brass insert with female threads inside, the manual says that a M6 allen key should be used to unscrew it, but there is no allen skape inside the brass insert.

Has anyone ever tried to unscrew the insert?

Mine does not let water out, and I end up with water sloshing in to the petrol tank. I think its either clogged or installed improperly.

Regards
Finn

Our 630's came with the tank drains plugged with the allen screws. Mine came right out. Hers would just spin the insert. I took her tank off the bike and spent an hour or more getting that pos allen screw out. I ended up going at the screw with a hobby hack saw blade and planned to cut the head off and drill it out. The heat and movement from the sawing freed up the screw though and I was able to remove it with my fingers. It was a complete pain in the *** for something that should not have been plugged up at the factory. Good luck to all who have stuck drain screws.

I think some my be confused with all of this. Post 4 above by oneleven shows a excellent pick of the problem. The nipple at the top of the tank is the breather/vent port. Below the nipple in the pic you can see a allan cap screw. That is the outlet side of the drain hole from up in the filler neck of the gas tank. That allan cap in the pic is what needs removal and the hole in the filler neck under the gas cap is left alone. It will then drain.

XLE,
Thanks for pointing that out. I was just about to head outside and fix that but I had assumed that I would find the cap screw under the gas cap. Thanks. Cam.

Thanks a bunch. Sure enough there was that pesky cap screw blocking off my drain. The end of the screw was even corroded already - on a 500km bike!. Cam.
