Managed to find and buy a 19l tank on ebay germany. Apparently hens have teeth. As far as I know the 17l tanks were mainly sold in the Australian market. I could be mistaken though.

Hey George, I appreciate the rarity of them but the bike itself is only worth that!
    What's a 19l tank worth?
If anyone has a contact for Acerbis I reckon they would still have the moulds and could do a short run of them.

    It's basically a cross between a TE 610e and an SM 610e
For instance it has a 21" front wheel with a larger brake disc and a 17" rear.

    Well found scudster.
By the way have you measured the capacity to full, does it hold 19L?
You'll need to change the seat now if you've got 200 mile tank range

Havent got my hands on it yet, it's sitting in the post office waiting to be collected. It was advertised as 19l so that's what I believe it to be.
The seat will need attention. Even now with the 9l tank my ass aches before I hit reserve!

This is where the confusion starts. The part number on it makes it a 17l tank. But it wont fit with the fan which leads me to believe its a 19l tank. Anyone done a mod to fit a fan along with the tank? I'm looking into fitting an IP 68 rated axial fan, similar to a PC fan. Just can't find one that fits snugly.

Found a suitable IP68 rated fan on ebay for 33 euro delivered. Mounting holes line up too!

To get a lower profile and allow the tank to fit I had to trim the corner lugs and recess the fan.

    Should be just enough clearance.

To get a better draw through the rad I filled the gaps around the edges with bits of plastic bonded to the fan so I can go back to stock easily.

Some photos of it fitted with the tank.

That tank looks awesome, but the fan rad shroud looks like it doesn't allow ANY airflow across the rad. Those removable black tabs...shouldn't they be removed, or the entire assembly be removed to allow airflow? Does the other rad have the same back side shroud?

The black rubber pieces on the shroud are very pliable and only held at the top so when air passes through the rad it pushes these open allowing flow. What the shroud does is allow the fan to pull air through the full area of the rad and not just onfront of it.
The other rad has no shroud.

Filled it to the brim and you can fit 19.5 litres into it. Safely fit 19l as I had a little come out the expansion tube.

So I have two of these.
The first one I got from Eric Jensen in Pasadena, around 1997. Had to wait over a year (f'n Cagiva), and give like $600, but it was worth it. I assume it's a 17L because I could never get 5 gallons into it.

Then I found this rare bird on the local Vegas Craigslist. The seller claimed it was from a limited batch of tanks Franco Acerbis made for the Incas rally. He said it was larger than the original "oversized" tank and it is a bit bigger than my 17L. It's also the clear/natural color, I've only seen white, yellow and black tanks. He got it from Casey Folks from a bike that was later used in the Nevada rally.

Must be a 19l so. Someone on here posted a pic of his oversize tank which was a natural colour and you could see the fuel level. If your first tank is 17l, does it have a recess which allows the tank to fit with the OEM fan on the e start models?

Pretty sure that both my tanks were produced before there was and e-start model. I'm curious enough to dig them out of the garage and check now.
Here's a closer up pic of the smaller tank.

Could you take a few photos of the comparison please.
