  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TXC 510 FLYWHEEL MASS..

On a 2010 txc 510.. can the flywheel mass be removed for a faster spinning engine? I notice the smr version has a counterweight which I wouln't want either..
Just wondering if anyone has done this and would it vibrate too much?
thanks!

I am not sure about the flywheel mass. I've heard of people installing the smr counterweight to reduce vibration, so removing mass would more than likely increase vibes.

You could shorten the stroke by installing 450 parts which would get it to rev quicker but you'd lose torque... (and it wouldn't be a 510 anymore)

I removed the flywheel weight from my 2008 TXC450, but of course I installed the c/b shaft and its entire set of gears (cheap best motor mod I did @ 200 bucks in parts) we also welded the gear to prevent any slippage because its a press fit only gear as is the weight. The OEM flywheel weight is very heavy and I believe, from my seat of the pants that with the SMR c/b shaft installed the thing spun up faster, and the topper is how smooth the motor is with the c/b system installed. I've stated before they should have never removed the c/b shaft from any of these motors (the original TE came with it then they dropped it in the TE and TXC the TC never used the c/b shaft assy.)
ZipTy racing was turning down the weights to lighten the crank mass, but the main reason I did the SMR c/b shaft mod was because that's what the race team ended up doing on their AMA Nat H&H dez racer machines and it was recommended from Ty's racers (NB657).

thanks guys.. ya I DEFINATELY am gonna keep it a 510! thats the sweet part about it.. but looking at anything and everything I can do to lose weight off this monster and gain "free" hp quicker revs.. All I use the bike for is Ice racing and supermoto in the summer.. Its too much of a widow-maker for motocross and the single track we have here!

Install the G2 Ergonomics throttle tube with interchangeable cams. I run the 400 cam for single track. It tames the power delivery so much even my girlfriend can ride it. Only takes a few minutes to change back to stock cam.
Hhmm... Could also try a quick turn cam to give the "feel" of quicker revs... But that could be just plain dangerous
