the rims themselves with or without the pins were lighter than the same size rims of other makes
the metallurgy was not perfected yet

thanks for the tip fran, he does have some of their line....i had found a better price on the studded "pro" tires by $100 a tire direct from europe. the rest of his mitas are at a good price..sadly he seems to carry an awful lot of the kid cross line, and a ton of the adventure line, with only 2 or 3 of the full size dirt tires. still pretty good assortment tho

but back to tires, seems at the cost of 2 tires and the limited use the frustration is finding something that works most everywhere
good place to start is look what most teams use for ISDE
the Unicross was used by a few teams in their day

ive been very happy with those front and rear on the 360 and any of the swedes..people i have never rode with have made fun of them, asking what the heck are those things, seeing that old tread design is unimpressive. they change their tune after the ride, as the uni shines where i live. we have sand, silt, mud, pebbles, small rocks, roots, hardpack, everything. they work well everywhere, and they seem to like being run low on psi as well. they arent the lightest tire, they are well built and are dot rated front and rear to show it. they used to be only available 110/90 but i see they are now available in 120/90..
im willing to try the pirelli, some say its better. they are the same size now tho.

Ok ordered the mitas stone eater front tire too. The Pirelli is on the way too. Three bikes, six tires, I'm tired out for now. lol Lots of work coming up soon.
My new folding shift levers just arrived too. The plan is starting to come together.

Best and longest lasting rear tire that I've found for all around use and open desert here so far has been the MotoZ Tractionator desert HT. 140/80/18. My Buddies hate it though. Really need an all around tire here that will do it all. Many of my buddies run the Maxxis desert IT and a few even run Pirelli MT43s. So we do have some different types of riding situations and preferences on tires here trust me.

Have ran everything from a Kenda Southwick on the front for the sand washes. To Maxxis 7313 EN fronts, Michelin desert, Bridgestone M603s, Geomax MX31s, Bridgestone M59,X30,M23 for more open areas. Depending on the weather, the dry Winter's or Summers (monsoon season) require this. Have changed front tires, like oil changes over the years. I don't even want to count them.
I guess I'm Gonna get on the prepaid list for the infamous GT216AA next.

I'm in the high desert, 4200 to 5000+ ft. Elevation. The forested tree lines not too far away. We get a little of everything here. Including soft loamy soil, even softer cow paddies, sand washes, Mud, muddier water holes, rocks, roots, and leaf litter, dead cactus you name it.

I haven't ridden in any rock pit here in Arizona.

I hope you noticed that stone eater tire is a dot approved tire. I only intended to comment on the name. I will see if I can get a clarification from my friend who I presume knows the owner. I would have gone there myself years ago but was told not a walk in and buy storefront, ex employees were different.

DOT?? The thread pattern looks good, it's a barum tire? They offer a 13 0/17" rear DOT tire too. Put the old 84 milk truck on the street too, ride to the dam. I have the Speedo/drive but need a cable. I really liked the trellborg tires.

The mitas front tire is called the stone eater. The rear tire is called the stone king from the one I see for sale the knobs are big similar to the trellborg tires.

I didn't read the DOT on the front tire.

I should of knew better. There so hard I can't spread them open to install the wooden blocks for a few days so the beads stay open so the tire is easier to mount.

From the outside, the 216's look like the same tread pattern. For the "Fat Tire" it's a 90/100-21 although in reality it's a 100/110-21 Italian race tire with a super light dual compound motocross compound and weave. They are DOT legal and typically see 2-3k miles of use before replacement. Chilly did a review here: http://www.enduro360.com/2014/08/19/products-tested/golden-tyre-gt216aa-front-review/

It's UV light and O3 that cracks tires. The new Armorall has a UV inhibitor which is good. Not sure anything will help a hardened tire, it probably baked for years in a connex box. I had a tire like that and it flew apart.

That's what I'm thinking it's so dry and hard it will just fly apart. I purchased older trellborg tires that were ok.
