Well the girl is done, other than discoveries at the track.

what a hoot of a bike.
Motor is so smooth it isnt funny.
Drum brakes suck so bad, it isnt funny (nothing like being spoiled by disks.... )

Most of the stuff on her is cosmetic, nothing major mechanical, she was like new.
    1. new tires and tubes
    2. Pro Taper Bars
    3. New Boyesen reeds
    4. New cables all around
    5. Fuel line, vent lines and fuel filter
    6. New home made swing arm chain slider
    7. New filter...
    8. O-ring chain (brand new) I had recently taken off a KTM 450 EXC
    and other odds and ends.
    9. New EBC Grooved brake shoes front and rear

First race....in a 'few" decades, on an MX track...
not bad, 1st moto I took her easy not to get tangled up until I got my Sweed legs back and used to the power, suspension and brakes (or lack there of)

2nd moto, placed 2nd...scores hadnt been posted for the day, should be in the top 5.

Awesome bike, needs some things tweaked now that I have a race under her.

Springs.....wow....need PB springs (Phat Butt) front and rear (photo)
Need to tweak just a bit more on the jetting, she is close but not quite there.

Going to make a Carb power wing before I switch to a 38mm carb in search of a bit more off the bottom response.

Clutch extender...wow...forgot what these old open bike clutches were like....wow....left forearm is the only thing sore today.
    :D

    Fun fun fun.

Now to find a 250 so I can race in the 250 class during events!

I left more S12 here than on the track....

Yes the XC 500 is a big tall bike.
Yes I am 6'3" and make any bike look small.

Nice report. And they're always better with pics.
That 500 looks like a minibike under your 6'3" self!
The track looks really nice, too.

Heads up! Before you start foolin' w/the carb loose that stock silencer- it clogs up and is very restrictive. Go with something new(er) for an open class bike and prepare to feel some real changes.

    Good tip...

how is the "Generic" FMF SA unit for open bikes?
    typical FMF = decent quality?

I can get one of those...

Nice Scott. Looks like woodlandMX? Nice track for that for sure. EZ and smooth with tables. :notworthy: bike looks great.

I rode my semi vintage new to me beast with my KTM300 riding buddies and surprisingly had no issues keeping up op or leading. After some setup I did not feel it was a liability at all.

HR- FMF is good but pull the S/A if it has one. You want this puppy to breath.
