Contemplating buying a set of SM wheels for my TE630, came across the issue of a shortened trail due to having a smaller wheel.

From what I can gather, the TE has a stock trail of 115mm. Converting the TE to 17" wheels changes the trail to 89.6mm theoretically. An issue has been raised about this new trail number being too small. I can only find one reference to the SM630's stock trail saying that it is 86mm.

Can anyone verify these numbers or give me feedback on the stability of a converted TE?

    Cheers, Max

I have run my supermoto wheels on my TE630 and it handled fine to me. I originally bought the wheels for my TE301R and they bolt right up to my 630 as well with a different front caliper bracket and the smaller 630 rear disc.

Mine tips into turn 2 at Phillip Island at about 150.
I have never noticed any instability. If anything, I find the steering still a little slow.

I could measure the trail with a tape, but what's the point?

I concour. Don't worry about the numbers. It's awesome. Firm up the damping from stock TE settings front and rear with the adjusters when you make the swap to SM wheels. Love the way it handles in the twisties.
