  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I've read the massive amounts of info here about people getting oil sucked up the breather hose in to the airbox then coming out all over. My question is do I have to crash my bike while riding on the street and die before Husqvarna comes up with a solution (cost on them- its a NEW bike) to the oil that spews out of my airbox and gets all over my engine/exhaust/wiring and REAR TIRE!

I went on my first long ride on my 2012 TE511. I only have 320mi. now. I rode around 100mi. and half way through I noticed lots of oil all over my engine/exhaust/wiring and back tire. Good thing I noticed it. This is on top of the stalling every time I pull the clutch in due to the stock lean fuel mapping and emissions garbage which Husqvarna tried to make work.

So if I bring my bike to my local dealer and tell them about this what could they possibly do? Lower my oil level to below the factory recommended amount? lol I don't even think Husqvarna has an answer. At least I haven't read about it here.

I have since fixed the stalling when pulling the clutch in- MYSELF
Fixed the stalling while idling- MYSELF
I don't feel I should have to fabricate an oil/air separator system - MYSELF

OK I think I am done....lol :D

How much oil are you putting in it? I use 1 quart, 975ml without issue,
I think most do this, or use some type of mod to run more....

On the advise of my dealer I run a little less than the amount called for in the book with no leakage. The oil is about half way in the sight glass with the bike level and the engine hot. I also ran a hose from the drain on the air box to in front of the chain so if there is any leakage it will lube the chain and not the top of the engine or the rear brakes. After the bike is well broken in it seams to be less of a problem.

I can't see running less than the manufacturer's recommended amount. Wouldn't this void the warranty? also if you ride on the street the oil on a tire would not be safe.

The dealer recommended using less. That recommendation came from the manufacturer.
one quart is about the same amount of oil that is used in my Yamaha and Honda DS motorcycles. It is not an unusually small amount of oil for this type of motor. Go out and ride it. If it blows up buy a Honda.

There is oil clinging to all kinds of things inside the engine...if you put in a litre you have more than that total. The sight glass is there to set the level. My 511 has been ridden almost 3 years with level set below 1/2 in siteglass and changed very regularly. Still works great. Lean stalling was easy to fix, and now easier for TEs.

Last Honda I had was almost impossible to start, suspended for someone the weight of my left leg, and wore me out every time I rode it.

The Husky is a better value and better bike...but it aint a refrigerator...some setup is required.

When I bought my TE449 I was warned about the oil level problem, and it is a very fine line at having it at the correct level, and slightly to much oil in the engine, I have not experienced any problems but I think you have to forget all about how much oil you are suppose to put in the engine, and set it up on the glass level, when My engine is hot I want it half way on the glass level. with no problems, so it is not running below the recommended manufacturers level, but that said it is not to the highest level they say you can run it.

I have changed my own oil since buying the bike new, and again I put in enough to just see it hit the bottom of the glass level, with a cold engine, it expands to just over half way when hot, and no issues. I might add only use the bike so far on the road, even though holding high revs for longish periods but I guess it is different from off road where the bike is at more extreme levels.

If I had easy access to mod to allow more oil I would do so for sure, but living in the UK makes it harder.

For the record, on my TXC511 I recently added the Zip Ty vent re-locator ONLY (no tank yet) with 1200 cc added after full oil change....and no oil in filter yet. I just hooked the regular vent hose to the Zip-Ty vent for this stage... Eventually I will add a tank and bump the oil up higher.

And I just ordered another Zip-Ty vent for my 449....nicely done product and works as intended.

To update Made the power up plug- I'm not buying a paperclip from the dealer for $70 or what ever they are asking. Removed the 2nd butterfly in the throttlebody, Decatted the stock muffler. Replaced the crappy underpowered battery, installed an oil catch can that recycles it back to the engine, added a jd tuner and finally it doesn't leak oil, smoke, stall, has loads more power and i can run more oil than stock with no problems.

I really like the bike but think Husqvarna and Motofit in Danbury, ct suck in many ways.

hey, thanks for coming back with this (almost 3 years to the day); wish more people would.

rate the dealer in the dealer thread.

I agree. A complete redesign of the oiling system was required. I fabricated a lot of it and it took a long time. But the bike runs great now and has tons of power. Just the cost of entry on this one I guess .
