  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE310R - Removing alternator cover!!! am I missing something?

What the f...

I cannot get my alternator cover off. 6 screws are off and it wiggles a little bit but WON'T come off.

Any advice?

I don't want to jam a screw driver in a pry it off cause I ruin the gasket no doubt. I'm doing the pull and tap with a hammer trick but it ain't workin.

FYI, I've got a little oil leak from the top of the cover that I'm checking out.

If it's anything like the setup on my '07, then the stator is attached to the cover. The magnets of the flywheel are acting to hold the cover/stator on. YOu just have to give it a hard tug to overcome the magnetic force.

Thanks guys. I gave it an angry pull and it came off.

Added a little gasket goo around the rubber grommet that the wires go into as it looked like the dribble of oil may have been coming from there.

and yep... there's a bearing in the cover.

I use two lrge hose clamps wrapped around cover. Leave the screw hose clamp thing opposite each other, then you can pry cover off evenly and save gasket. Some of these covers wont budge unless you do this. You got lucky.

Ah, so they are supporting that crank end that has all that starter spag gears and such under the end of that flywheel held in place by that tiny "xr80" woodruff key.....GOOD MOVE!

So....are the 2013 bikes still having e-start trouble?

I have to say my 2010 Te250 took a lot of work but it is running sweet even with my stock 4pt injector.

It took a lot of work though.

Use a good silicone gasket sealer and use it around all edges of the grommet and force it down thru the wires in the grommet. After putting the cover back on put a nice covering on top of the whole grommet out onto the case and around the wires again. Be sure to use a contact cleaner of some type before applying any silicone or it won't adhere correctly and you'll see the leak again in no time. Have had to do both TXCs but have it under control, I think!
I wasn't real worried about what was coming out(more of a pain in the ass mess), it was what could possibly be getting in that had me fixing things.

both my 310s had the oil leak around the wire grommet, same here pulled cover cleaned with contact cleaner and used 1211 threebond to seal them, both are non leakers now. 11 has no end bearing 13 has the end bearing. 13 has a OEM bulletin to fix the starter assy on certain serial no. machines. Mine starts much easier now with the update installed.
