• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 630 JD Power Surge 6X, NO PU kit - Lambda left connected

Why would you remove the Lambda sensor, ie put the PU in, and run open loop with the JD Power Surge 6X ?

My bike has this setup with the air restrictor removed and runs GREAT !

most people went to the pu before the jd kit id assume? someone would have to talk to james to see if his software is designed to interact with the lambda sensor

It doesn't interact with the sensor. The ECU does. The JD tuner adjusts the ECU's output signals to the injector.

That's a good point. Having a closed-loop can really save fuel when motoring along at mild or steady-state throttle. The JD can still provide a nice fuel boost when accelerating or going hard. But it makes little sense to run the motor too rich when you're just cruising along.

I might put the sensor back in during the winter and check it out. I'm not really satisfied that my fuel mileage has dropped so much.

I called JD and asked the same question. I was told to put in the resistor, but didn't get in to why. I also didn't speak to James.
I'd like to know more.

I asked that question...the reason to use the PU kit is that is how JD tuned their device -- their setup 630 had the PU kit installed.. If you use their device without our PU kit, you'd be on your own to figure out good settings.

Since the JD is so easy to play with, I'm going to try it anyway.

That's a bit disappointing. I don't understand why someone (anyone) would want to render the FI to an open system. Sure, you can change settings but . . . part of the attraction of FI is it's inherent (closed-loop) ability to adapt to change.

I just rode a KTM ADV 950 (yes, I bleed Orange but also have a sweet handling Husky) from Frankfurt to Ulaan Bator, Mongolia. That bike confronted rain, 115 degrees in the Kyzl Kum desert, 15,400' in the Pamirs and single digit temps in Russia and Mongolia. It was just luck that the bike ran okay across that range. Anyone with FI (closed-loop) didn't even think about it.

I did speak with James regarding the lambda and resister scenario. He said his tuner would not work right with the lambda in place. It would just loop the signal back to the ecu and not work properly. So basically install the otherwise know as "power up kit" so the JD power surge fuel tuner will work. The stock ecu has several functions and is able to make changes without the narrow band lambda in place.
