Has anyone done one of these?

I've got a new crank because my big end went. I went to the BMW dealer here they said they don't do that repair :-S

I've been told by another dealer that if i get the shims off the old crank and use the same size on the new I shouldn't need to worry too much about setting axial clearances.

I'm just wondering has anyone on here done this themselves? I'm at the point now where all I should need is a new shim kit to start reassembling and change the main roller bearings (ordered shim kit but Auspost lost them....)

Any help would be great. Thanks

Call ZipTy Racing. They have lots of experience with this motor and also have a neat mod that allows better oil flow at the bearings.

Aren't these motors still available, new- in a crate, for like $2200? Seems like I remember seeing that, which makes me think that cranks should be attainable.

    good luck

The BMW version used to be available too but I don't see it anymore. That would be my choice, for the 5 speed.

28cc's difference... and the 449 motors can be close to the same as a 511.

But my point was that it seems like the crankshaft should be available; Kymco seems to be still "cranking 'em out" (ok- a bad pun; but you know what I mean). Try a little research and see what'cha come up with.

some minor advantages of having a 450 (race class-wise, if you decide to do a dual sport, for example). And I agree with dom... I'd be looking for the 5-speed.

    good luck.

edit: dom replied while I was replying too:

hell- there you go. slap your top-end on that thing. offer $850

    sheesh.

I just did a search on the stock 2014 crankshaft part number (I googled "husqvarna 8531521") and got quite a few hits. Call BMP or Hall's and order the thing.

Cranks are just a number of peices pressed together. Left hand weight, right hand weight, and pressed in rod pin to hold both together.

Many non specialized shops cant/wont repair cranks. Its a bit of an art form, but i assure you as long as it is not visually ruined, they can fix it.

A good crank repair service should be able to fix just about anything worng with them as long as they are complete (not exploded into peices or missing chunks from the weights). Factory parts would help the process, but they should be able to fix anything and size a correct pin even if parts are not avalible. The Rod would be the other peice that would be required, and custom rods are readily avaliable from numerous "race" shops. They are expensive, but avaliable to be custom made to size.

So for the heck of it I tried AOMC they do not have it and husqvarna is still on back order.

Although we have found out the bmw G450X has the same crank correct? Curious about the rod length and if the crankshaft is exact? Figured we may need information at some point. Maybe if we find out earlier than later we can get a crankshaft for later just in case. Some of you guys are getting close. lol

This is the part number for a 2010 BMW G450X crankshaft. Part Number: 11217715433
    https://parts.bmwmcjax.com/p/BMW_2010_G450X/Set--crankshaft/42773706/11217715433.html

That is where I found it for $848.00 Might be cheaper if we find a wholesale bmw parts seller.

I think someone on here used a BMW crank and was only some slight differences.
