  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 449 spark plug change....need some help

SD449

Husqvarna
So, Ive got the spark plug case out, and I thought I should ask how to open it so I don't break something. Can somebody let me know? Thanks

A spark plug case is a plastic tool case that holds various different spark plug socket sizes for the removal of spark plugs from engines. Your saying your having trouble opening this tool case?

If you would like to remove the spark plug from a TE449 then this is a different question?

Thanks for the replies. It was a dumb question. The sparkplug is underneath that big plastic cap, not in it. My bad. My TE 449 died at the top of Superstition Mountain which is a sand dune area. Couldn't roll start it, so I addressed the battery, sparkplug, and air filter. None of those did it. I took it to the dealer, and they found a little metal debris in the throttle body on the mid right side of the bike. From the factory, or broken off. That was holding something in the wrong position during a start. I would have never found it....especially since I could barely find the sparkplug. Honestly, these thinhgs NEED KICK STARTS! I'll take the extra 1 lb. of weight so I don't get stranded again. That the farthest i've ever had to push a bike. Now with a brand new battery it still doesn't really start that strong.

That is the reason why I bought a TE310 instead of a TE449. I have ridden sweep at ton's of event's and have pushed my fair share of DRZ, Husabergs, and many other bikes out of the woods for dead batteries or starting issues. The kicker was mandatory for me. Good luck resolving your issue.

I could never start my former xlite 310 via the kick start......for me the kickstart was more like an orniment rather than a functioning piece of kit.

Kick start would have worn you out instead of your battery...with the problem you described, it still wouldn't have started!!

I've never been able to kick start my 08 te510!

Hope you get your bike / spark plug sorted out!

I have a 05 TE250/310 & never used the kick start but i have had to order parts to repair a loose kicker. Don't fiqure!!!

Having a kicker was one of the Big 6 criteria when I bought the TE 450: Kicker, E-start, EFI, 6 speed, 400cc-450cc motor, street legal from factory

My Te511 starter hits really good. Starts every time with no problem. I had different problem the dealer fixed. We will test this weekend. I know if you crack the throttle some it takes longer to start. After kicking, 490, 426 and 650R i am Glad to have e-start now! Off to Ocotillo Wells this weekend!
