My low miles (<300) SWM RS650R occasionally has the gear change jam so that I can't change down but can change up! Since the SWM motor is replica of the TE630 I wondered whether any TE630 riders have experienced this ? and if so what was the solution?
Sometimes mine 650 needs 2 toe pokes to change up into 3rd. and 4th. Seems to be a fair amount of lever range required. Did not have this issue with my 630. The lever is on correctly and quite tight ie no slop or play on the splines.
PS have clocked up 7500 trouble free kms on the RS650 with 80% dirt and 20% road. I have put on a BB bask plate and rear rack, TE 630 gear lever (longer and stronger) Bark busters, Safari 25 ltr tank and the touring screen from the Enduro version. Love the bike.
The differences are minor Rotax. The Rs650 has a little less suspension travel which is actually a good thing as it works well in the bush and is better under brakes on the tarmac. The ECU has been updated and the bike is marginally more responsive.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I've just changed oil & filter (the first change)and saw the typical amount of shiny particles and a few pieces of manufacturing swarf. I'll see how it performs over the next few rides. My dealer has suggested it may be the quadrant & pawl mechanism on the end of the gear shaft occasionally getting stuck. If it reoccurs he'll investigate the mechanism. I'm inclined to think that very few mechanical problems improve with use......... :0(
I'm beginning to suspect gear selector shaft end float. Allowing the quandrant & associated bits to lock.
