  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey Guys, I need some advice. I have a 2012 TXC 310. I ride enduros mostly in Texas. So, hard packed, rocks and some sand. My weight is around 200#s without gear. My riding ability can probably be mostly described as a B rider. I have never had the suspension professionally done on a bike. Normally just set the sag and then just try to get use to what it gives me. I have heard from some that having your suspension done is the best thing they have ever done, while others have said they couldn't tell much difference. One thing for certain is that this bike was not set up from factory to accommodate my weight or the type of riding I do. I have been told to look into Factory Connections to do this work. Wanted to hear you alls comments on to do or not to do. Also, does anyone have any experience with Factory Connections?

I bought the demo bike, a TE310, and it had Too Tech suspension installed. Like you, on all my previous bikes I kept stock, set sag and rode. I have to say that the upgraded suspension is a thing of beauty. I ride better, faster, don't bottom out and have more confidence on the bike. I'm not affraid to push harder either. For me the upgrade was wonderful. Any new off road bike I get from now on will have the suspension modded from the get go. Don't know about the other shops but the Too Tech worked great for me.

I didn't know what I was missing until I upgraded.

I agree with urban_chaos, you will ride faster and with more confidence. You will be able to push it.

I elected to replace my KYBs with Ohlins, but a good suspension tuner can work wonders on the stock KYBs.

Thanks guys for the response. I feel that I would be glad I did. I just got a quote, yikes, 20% of the value of the bike. All I can say is, I sure hope I see a difference if I go to the trouble of taking off, shipping, putting back on and paying that amount of money.

hi there,i used to do suspension work for a top uk enduro rider and also a top ten 250 world rounds mx championship rider.also do a lot of work for shops in the local area. most important thing is making sure the spring weights are correct for you, that goes for the front end to. once youve dialed in the springs then look at damping. these days very few bikes are realy bad(there are still a few though lol). also sometimes it can be hard to work out what is going on with the suspension. hd video can help there to check realy what is going on by playing it back on a pc. as unless you know the problem a suspension guy can't realy make it better for you(unless you are riding a mx set up bike in real technical going etc).hope this helps a little.

WER did a great job on my 12 TXC310. It was killing me with the stock suspension. It's set up way too stiff stock - for rocks.

doesnt the txc have closed cartdridge forks not open bath, best mod i found on them was replacing the oil presure springs on them to lighter ones on yzf's made them a lot plusher in the woods, along with a shim job as well.fantastic forks the closed cartridge ones, wish i had them on my 2011 te449. haven't played with them yet. from what i hear the insides of the kyb's on the huskies are different to the yams, will have a look shortly.

The 1st place to check would be the outstanding vendors here on CH. And wow, 20% of bike value. That's a lotta moola.

depending how bad outta spec the suspension is compared to your weight/riding style. The difference in mine was huge. I got so used to the bike dancing all over the place and when I had it tuned its way more forgiving. It was almost boring the first ride out.

I keep looking at my race schedule to find a long enuff time window to get my stuff out to you guys at ZTR. Hopefully between Thanksgiving & New Years

Thanks to everybody. I really do love this bike. Power is right, size, feel everything so far. Sure hope it stays together. Looks like time to take it one step closer. Kids are getting to the age where involved in so much and I don't get to ride as often as I used to. I am never really in riding shape anymore. Referring to what aviduser said, I could use things being a little easier on this old out of shape body. I can kinda relate to what he said. Bouncing all over the place, hair on fire , riding on the edge of disaster was part of the fun. Now days, not so much.
Tinken, supporting this group and taking the time to answer questions deserves our support. I have looked at your website, can you give me a little direction in what you think will need to be done and the price for that. I see your pricelist but unfortunately I don't have a clue what all I need. I think my bike has about 15 hrs on it. My weight riding ability and stuff are described above.
Thanks

the most important thing are the springt rates for a start. OEM valve stacks are not stupidly off so start with springs to get that thing sitting right and balanced

Springs are about 220 for forks and rear, labor 280, oil 45. Basically 540 unless seals, ect are needed which are 10--15 more or so. We use Racetech and other quality parts as well as Torco oil which is the best.

First off suspension is by far the best money you can spend on an off road bike. If you plan to keep it for any good length of time bight the bullet and send it off and have a full job done on it.

Second, I highly recommend ZipTy racing. They have been there done that with the huskys.

I would definitely go with what tinken says re husky suspension setup as they have a great deal of experience. It would take a few goes for a firm with no husky experience to dial them in as I believe the base valve is different in a husky to what is in kybs fitted to jap bikes.

Suspension was a must for my WR300. I race B class and there is no way Id race a stock WR suspension. I went to Evan at Solid Performance. He is not far from my home. Maybe Zip Ty would be worth shipping out to since youre not super far away in Texas.
Btw, I love Texas. That and America are my two favorite countries.
