  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Sudden Stall. Start Problems On Smr 511.

A Class
Hi there, not so active posting but used to own a 449. Recently I bought a 511. I do notice quite some difference in power.

Background: butterfly mod, full akra, mapping updated

During a night ride the bike suddenly lost power in 6th gear. Shifted to 4th gear and stalled. Never got it running ever since. There are some oil issues (on 449 I had the breather mod), right now I do not have one installed.
There is oil all over the engine, and I do some proper cleaning every ride.

After the bike broke down on me, I did the following things:

- Removed air filter box, plenty of oil in (no surprise)
- Checked cooling system, no oil inside. (head gasket is fine)
- Changed spark plug, tested outside cylinder. Spark looks okay.
- Measured coils
- Bypassed kill switch
- Checked throttle body, no oil inside.
- Removed valve cover and check valve clearances
- Tried to read the ECU, however I get 'ECU is not responding' using tuneECU and windows laptop.

- Battery is full, and contacts are clean
- After some seconds blue flame appears out of the exhaust, pretty rich.

My thoughts are;
All the oil spills got soaked into the wiring harness and is causing issues. That could explain the non-responding ECU. It does not rule that last one, though, could be the laptop.
The dashboard is fine, does that rule out the ECU as well?

I could try to switch back to race map 1.
Refuel? Check injector? How do I test/clean it? And remove it ofcourse?
I am out of options though.

Hope to hear some tips or experiences from you.

Hi, doesn't sound great.
First question, does the bike have a JD tuner attached?
Recent models of this tuner have been blowing up ecus...

I just found out the piston has a huge fracture along the small end axis.
New piston it is.
This is more common problem on a 511. The 449 has smaller diameter pistons (duh).

Well, that will do it.
Not common, but curable.
Hopefully the bore and bottom end are fine.
If you are looking for genuine top end parts, we have a member on our FB page who has some new old stock 511 barrel and pistons.
