  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

starter problems 2012 te 310

read threads on starting issues. From starter gear and shaft upgrades to improper valve adjustments causing problems. this weekend I am going to check valve adjustments and then go from there. Dealer seems to think it is a starter issue but hasn't checked the valves. Starters are on back order til who knows when so I will get a rebuilt one from Bill's in Oregon. Was aslso advised to get the starter gear kit upgrade. This is if the valves are not the problem. Does anybody have any other experience with this mess.

Yes, I have experience with this. Luckily it did not happen while riding but after an all-day ride.
A valve adjustment and starter kit did fix my 2012 TE310. As I remember, the exhaust valve tolerance is unforgiving and must be right on or tighter than spec. That was about 2 years ago and no problems since. Bill's did the work. I would do both, ...check the valves and put in a new starter.

How many miles do you have on it , have the valves ever been adjusted?

On my bike?
About 2k miles. I bought the bike used with over 1k miles on it, so I don't know the whole history. But since I have had it, the valves have been adjusted once.
Also, I am running 0-40w Mobil 1 and a stainless oil filter. Love the bike.

Thanks for the info I'll be checking valves tomorrow.

Well took my bike over to my friends to check valves on my 2012 te 310 after having what seemed like starter problems. Took advice from threads and guess what the exhaust valve clearance was off put a different shim in which I bought at a local Honda shop and it started right up. Ran it to operating temp shut it down and again it started right up. Through the course of the day sarted up several times without a problem. Seems to be fixed next weekend will be a test when I head out to the New Jersey pine barrens. Thanks everybody for the advice.
