  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Starter Motor Brushes

A Class
Hey guys

My problem today is my starter motor

I have had endless problems with my starter and electrics on my 06 te510

About 6 months ago my solinoid went, so $90 I replaced that and everything was working well but the bikes battery would die after a few days etc

So I replaced the battery and it was still doing the same thing

I then decided to take the time and "rewire" the whole bike, minus the lights etc so it was just the starting electrics, it can go for a few weeks before the battery starts to die off but will some times die during a ride
I have had my stator checked and it all was fine

So if there is some common fault or something I could do to stop this?

Second question
4 months ago my starter motor brushes had burnt out and I was unable to find brushes for the husky with no help from the local husqvarna store telling me I'll just have to buy a whole new starter motor
So I decided to buy the brushes off eBay and tried soldering them in myself, they worked for a little while then started playing up etc and just being a pain

So my question is there an aftermarket "brush plate" with the brushes already on it that I can just out straight into the starter motor with not fiddling

Thanks

I tried to find starter brushes, with no success, I just bought a new starter.

Have you checked your charging system, a multimeter on the battery should read 13v and higher when bike is idling.

I just repaired a rubbed wire under the tank of my bike, one of the 3 main, yellow stator wires, it was sucking the charge right out of my battery.

Dammit!!! I can't find then anywhere either

Where did you get the starter motor from and the cost?

I'll have to throw a multimeter on there today! Hopefully it's just a faulty wire

I get all my Husky specific parts from Bryon at Bill's Motorcycle Plus, a sponsor here. It was about $275 shipped from Oregon to Texas.

If you hadn't seen my old starter.....here it is....

Woww!! Mine is not as bad as that!!

Thats really cheap!! Thats about the same price as a second hand one here in AUS!!
They told me around $700 for new one

so you can see how trying to find $40 brush plate seams like a better option :)
