hi there! I'm making this thread to show a restoration project i'm working on. This is my second bike, so let's hope it works out fine. I bought it about two weeks ago. It's a nice bike, lots of potential. First of i tried it. It pulls great! 0-100kmh in about 5-6 seconds, and has a wide and powerfull powerband. i felt it had some soggy suspension in front, and found out it missed quite allot oil. i drained out the old, and filled new one. Now it's as it should be. I have not adjusted the compression/decompression yet, only took it down to what the factory set. Here is some pictures of the bike when i got it. (Taken from the last owner. Will be better pictures for later.)
it's missing the rear light glass, and the front is ruptured. The left plastic is missing. When i got it, the speedometer was broken, and i couldn't find a cable on the net. But it turns out the cable is the same as the one on a yamaha dt 125 r. so it's now working. Specs on bike: - dellorto phm 40 carb. (will be changed to a mikuni tm 40, any other suggestion from members will be great ) - 570 cylinder and valves. - old airfilter. - brembo brakes. - 9 liter gas tank (well, the rest you can find on the specs of the bike..) This bike will when done will be black and white, have a new frontlight, new exhaust (dual gpr exhaust.) I know the setup with the dual pipes is a little restricted, but it looks so sweet, so it might stay. If anyone has tried any other pipe, please tell how much better it is. Because i am a little interested in power. (hehehe)
Great bike I did the same with a none running 610. Mine had a busted kick start return spring and neutral return spring. General poor condition and a fooker to start, I'm happy with it now and it runs spot on and it's mot'ed. still needs a few little jobs!
I've started cleaning out my carb... it were mighty dirty. But all in all, in good shape. These are the before pictures. I started tearing it open. And cleaning... allot of cleaning...
Oh btw! I also painted a little. i've done an oil change on the front shocks, and a little examanation. They look very good! But i found a little sad thing.... The piston rings are worn. i got 65 psi in compression, and with a little oil in the cylinder 90 psi. So i'm thinking about buying a wiseco or wossner piston. But all in good time. Have a nice day, peops
When i did my Neighbours TE610 we replaced the piston rings only- since then the bike does not use any more oil, starts first to second kick and gives absolutely no worries. Also i would stick with the dellorto carb- once its clean and setup right u wount get any problems wit it. If a TE does not start/is hard to start- i would check the alternator- thats a common fault. Is that a DT125R in the background?
I can second that although I would like a 570smr carb for an up grade. But since re building my delorto and cleaning out the jets / setting it up right it runs spot on! My main jet needle height is 3rd slot up and the mixture screw is 1 1/2 turns out. Idle is set so it idles nice.
hmm... maybe i shall just change the rings then.. what should i look at on the alternator? check the coils on the stator, or the magnet ring? Yes, it's a dt 125 r. 170cc athena cylinder athena silencer big one expansion chamber carbon reeds No restrictions anymore either
I m not sure where i did find all the specs for my Neigbours Te, propably somewhere on Cafehusky. We bought an new aftermarket alternator when the readings from the old one where way out of spec. Thats been the best investment so far- i bought another alternator for my WR - such a good upgrade! check: www.hpi.be
If you have the barrel off its silly not to change the piston and have the barrel honed and also check the rod as best you can. Also if yours is a left kick only it dose not have an alternator unless your talking about the stator?. If the magnets are still bonded to the flywheel and the timing is right and you have a good spark it will be s fuelling issue
Keep in mind a compression check is hard to do on that motor since it has an automatic decompression device on the camshaft that dumps one exhaust valve every revolution until the RPMs pick up. You are getting a false reading in other words.
The old left kicker is not auto decompress. It has this lever on the side of the clutch. But i think the right kicker do have it
I think the magnet wheel and such Will wait. Because when i get it going, it feels like the timing is spot on. I will have it honednup though. Cheers!
There is both a manual decomp lever on the clutch and an auto decomp on the camshaft of the left kick motors built from 1994 and newer.
The rear fender is now up for painting. Let's see how it goes! before-pictures are allways important! Painting in progress!
