  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Radiator Hose Very Close to Header?

Is anyone having an issue burning the LH side lower rad hose on the header?

How are you guys protecting this hose? Does anyone have any pictures of their bike in this area? I'd like to see how much clearance others have and if there is some fitment issue on my bike.

I burned a hole in mine on my last ride and don't want to have it happen again. Here is an example picture of the area I'm talking about (this isn't my bike, but shows how close the hose is to the header):

Thanks!

I dont have any shots of my 06TE450 from that angle but heres the 08, up to 07 the pipe ran down the RHS as shown, the best thing to do is make sure you have enough hose length to add a sort of loop to keep the hose away from the pipe as well as using a doubler (mine has it zip tied on for trail hit protection) or some insulation wrap, a strip of exhaust wrap tied on would be good, or some thing like that. In this 08 foto you can see exactly which hose is effected by the RHS routed exhaust pipe on the earlier models

+ 1 on Roberts suggestion. Replace with a coolant hose of a bit longer length, you might be able to intentionally create a slight half loop so that the hose initially points backwards/follows an arc around the header then stratght into the radiator. You could also use header wrap (insulative woven glass/carbon fibre) on both that part of the header and your coolant hose. I wouldn't add the wrap though if that meant the difference between the pipes touching and not touching though.

Thanks guys, I've been kicking around several ideas on how to mitigate the problem. I'm looking at how best to route the hose + shield from heat and hopefully can tackle the issue this Sat. If I come to any epiphanies, I'll post here for future reference.

I have always been concerned about the coolant hose exposer to the elements on my te510. I covered my lower coolant hoses with "EZ-COIL". Goodyear rubber and Edelmann Fittings distribute this product. You can find this at most auto parts stores. It's better than nothing and very easy to install.

Thanks for the suggestions, all very interesting ideas. I'm surprised more people don't run into this problem, the hose is just so close to the header...
