Quantum pump install

I purchased the new Quantum fuel pump, but i'm trying to figure out why they included so many extra mesh strainers. I am assuming it's so that you have options on which one you want to use. Also any suggestions on how to remove the star clips that hold the pressure regulator in place. Thanks for the help and suggestions.
