1982 250/430/500 Upper and lower fork legs were 40mm and the same length for the WR/XC/CR also all used the same springs. The WR's used shorter dampening rods compared to the XC/CR. 125's still used 35mm forks in 82.

Not in 82 and 83, The wr lower legs were the same length as XC/CR lower leg. 84 WR's had the shorter lower leg with less under hang.

The 81 430 WR had 35mm forks until the very end of the production run, when some late ones got 40's. The 82 had 40mm forks with long underhand, same as 83. 84 got the shorter underhang on the WR's. 81 430 WR had less travel front and rear than 82WR, and both WR's had less travel than CR/XC. The 81 WR's also used a slightly shorter shock body tube and shock shaft.

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but your 412mm is probably 81WR and 436mm likely 82WR. The CR/XC shock comes in around 440-445mm???... again, from memory, no numbers in front of me.
