  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Pro Moto Billet Kickstand for 08 TE's

Just a heads up for those of us with the cruddy 08 kickstands. Spoke with a salesman at Pro Moto today while ordering a kickstand for the wife's crf. I asked about any future Husky products and he specifically mentioned a kickstand for 08's and newer is coming soon! Hopefully it will fit easily. It will not incorporate an auto-retract mechanism and is otherwise very similar to their existing line of billet kickstands. :thumbsup:
 
the 09 isnt an improvement on any other TE stand made since 200x ?

Its hard to understand why Husky cant design and make a decent stand for these bikes...just copy the XR stand or the WR stand - its not that hard.

I just picked up an 09 TE 450 Saturday, and while doing the walk-through with the dealer pointed out not to sit on the bike on the kickstand, or put undue load on it, it will break, or fall apart, something bad will happen. I can't count how many times I have been sitting there waiting for someone on my now 7 year old WR250F's kickstand without a problem. Looking at the Husky on the kickstand, I swear the thing is going to fall over to the right. :lol:
 
If you cut the auto retract head off of the pivot bolt the stands work much better. It allows them to go to the forward stop and the bike leans over further on the stand.

They actually work good without the retract feature.

Not in my experience. It is embarrassing how useless the kick stand is. When all my riding buddies are stretching their legs, I am sitting on my bike because it won't stand up on its own in the dirt. I get tired of looking around for a rock or stick, then kicking a hole with my boot to precisely the correct depth so it will stand on it's own. I usually try to pull up to something to lean it on (which can be pretty scarce in the desert). The only reason I leave the kick stand on there at all is because it usually will stand on it's own on the pavement. The biggest problem with it is that when the kick stand is down, the foot is way too close to the bike. On mine it is under the foot peg. On all my other bikes the stand is out to the side much farther. Also the angle on the flat part of the stand that rests on the ground is way off, so just a tiny point hits the ground first and burrows into the ground. I would not expect to see workmanship like this on a 2 grand Chinese bike, let alone on a Husky. Thanks for letting me vent, I feel the blood pressure lowering already:lol:.

I emailed Promotobillet a couple of weeks ago to see if I could get on a call list for when the stands are done. They have not acknowledged my email yet, so I resent it today, not off to a good start with them.

Then it's not going all the way forward. Once the retract is off it ( mine anyway ) goes about 4 inches further forward and sits nice and flat. The base actually ends up in front of the foot peg and the bike leans over on it very nicely.

I can actually start it in the driveway and walk off while it's warming up.

If I start my TE up on the driveway and walk off, so will it, from the vibration!:lol:
 
Something sounds weird. You both have the same bikes and have different symptoms.

My 2006 kick stand was really too long after lowering the bike via suspension modifications... then it slowly leaned more and more cause I get on the bike when the kickstand is down and some thing is bending a bit.

Maybe something like that is going on? Bike crash or something?
 
The biggest problem with the TE kickstands is the mounting tab alignment on the frame.

Most the bikes I have looked at, the tab is welded on too vertical causing the stand foot to be too close to the center line of the bike when down.
 
05, 07, 08 are the same worthless crap. Flimsy, doesnt work on dirt, always bends. The 09 has new but still worthless crap. need to swing the bike right past centre to put the stand up? Seriously...

Its just beyond reasonable that they cant make a good stand for these bikes after all of these years.

I would buy a decent replacement but one doesnt exist.

Does anyone know if the 09 te kickstand will fit on the 08 ?.I priced one at about 80 bucks,they look much nicer,and may work better :thumbsup:
 
Hey guys my 09 TXC 510 doesn't come with a kick stand but I will be making one for it. Is the problem some of you are having with your kick stands the stand itself (shaft) or is it the mounting tab?

Make sure you actually test it to make sure you like it, the 09 is pretty crap too.

Oh let's not skip over the '06, it sux too!

I'm thinking that they gave the design task to the apprentice... :excuseme:
 
On my 08 TE 510 it's makes the bike sit too tall.

If you crank the bars to the left..you're OK but when you pull them to the right the bike want to fall over.

My buddys TE 450 is the exact opposite the bike leans to much. In the bush if you don't find suitable hard ground the bike will just sink.:D

Aww it's a tough world we live in....:lol::lol:

The thing about using terms like crap & sux over and over is that it is contagious and other people start to talk like that... which degrades the overall atmosphere of the forum in the long term. Let me know if you want some examples of that - there are many to choose from.
