  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Older and Newer 450/510 Exhaust interchangability?

J-train

Husqvarna
AA Class
I am having a hell of a time finding a worthy aftermarket exhaust option for my 07 TE510, everything is either not in production anymore or not really appealing to me. There is a slightly better selection out there for the FI bikes. I know the exhaust is routed on different sides of the bike, but would it bolt up to the carbed bikes? I know there might be issues at the airbox and rear subframe mounting points but other than that it looks like it would route on either side of the bike otherwise. How about fittings at the enigine?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why not get the OEM ti set-ups that came from the earlier bikes? Some of the 04-07 models came with full titanium arrow or leo-vince set-ups from the factory.

Try Soviet's advice, I found out the hard way that the '08 exhaust won't even fit on the '09-'10 bikes, so I'll bet the fitment is always gonna be pretty specific to the year models.

What was the issue there?

The '08 models had the cat built into the OEM muffler, the '09-'10 models had the cat as a removeable insert in the midpipe. That difference made the muffler bend different enough that there is no fitment. So, if some pre'08 guys can jump in here, we can keep score by listing the year models that interchange on the same line as each other:

Muffler fitment interchange
2009, 2010
2008
2004, 2005, 2006, 2007

Again, issue is finding them, there are still a few that are advertsing selling the leo full ti setup, but so far I have not found anyone that has some in stock. Leo does not manufacture it anymore. Same story with the Akra. I found a company with a few still in stock, but they are for an 05 TC, with no spark arrestor or DB insert, not gonna work in CA NF. I think there are a few of the Arrow slip ons out there, but I wanted a full ti system.

Pretty sure all the 04-07 interchange, at least from Akra's detailed schematics all the Akra systems would bolt up 04-07.

SO if you had the whole exhaust from an 08, i would bet that if you changed all of it, it would fit the 09-10 bikes, just not mix and match. (maybe)

He's been making these for years and will have the info on fitment, if not the parts you need. He is going to be busy till next Thurs running his RACECO car in the NORRA 1000 Rally/Race so not sure on this week for service.

I have the full leo TI on my 04 TC450. Those also don't have a spark arrestor or DB insert. I got around the spark arrestor issue (I race district 36) by installing a spark arrestor screen into the muffler. The leo isn't actually that loud when packed correctly so you'll have absolutely no problem with DB tests. I get tested every race and I've never had an issue. If you're curious I'll send you a pic of what I did. I got the screen from motoxotica (though they ordered it from BBR I believe). Just gotta get creative when you have old bikes that are no longer supported. :)

That's a different story and I am not qualified to know the answer but I would guess Yes to almost full interchangeability, given the left/right differences.

Yes I would like to see what you did. marc.jorgensen1@gmail.com
I still am down to only a couple of vendoers that even offer the Leo, Leo USA says they do not make it anymore, so I am stuck trying to find NOS systems. Hope I can find something. I may end up buying the Akra and modding the silencer, but I was not wanting to have to break open a brand new can, and I know the rangers/CHP look for hte NFS stamps on the canister, so even if I put a makeship arrestor in there, the can is still technially not legal. I have had enough issues with this damn state in the 8 months I have lived here. A damn shame a state with such great riding/driving has the most retarded laws/restrictions on our hobby.

Breaking open a brand new can is nothign special. Drill out a coupla rivets and you're golden. I had to do the same thing with mine. I bought an 8 year old bike that had 5 hours on it. Mine came with two exhausts, the ti set-up, and then the choked up off road set-up. The bike runs soooo much better with the open exhaust. So I had to get the spark arrestor and install it. It's still pretty quiet though. More quiet than my buddies Q4 pipe.

The CHP/rangers are usually pretty stand up if you're not doing anything illegal, and youre goods are legit. If they can see plain as day that you have a spark arrestor, not loud as all hell, and the bike is registered and such, they will walk away. Loud mouthing, and not having the above worked out gets them all bent. The rangers that are out in the sticks always have to worry about the drug cartels growing "the goods" so they are always on edge. Won't take much to piss them off. (NOR CAL area). California has long been one of the worst places for this hobby. Every day peeps try to close down the parks and continue to infringe on the rights of the riders. It used to be a cultural mecha for the sport where whole cities endorsed the sport...now we're just a bunch of killing rapists that want to dirty up "their" land even though riders pay for it and the land trusts own it.

Either way, I'll get a pic for you of my set-up. Whole process took 30 minutes. I needed a grinder to get the universal screen to fit very nicely in my pipe. Another option is modifying your stock aluminum one to be like an open baffle unit. WOuldn't be hard to make. Just an option.
