We were out at the inaugural Northwest Offroad Racers Association Oregon State Hare & Hound last weekend. I was actually there helping run the events (Poker Run on Saturday, too). Several of the BMP/Oregon Husky riders showed up, including brother Mark...who unfortunately became the only serious start mishap...putting him 10 minutes behind the field.
Genuine rain in the desert, combined with winter moisture just below the surface plus mild temperature.....most excellent conditions.
My TXC511 and 449 as the Sunday morning frost melts off.
Mark made a last minute change of neck braces and ended up behind his line....not an auspicious start. Luke on the TE250 and Greg on WR250 are just to Marks right. Everyone did finish.
Local central Oregonian, C Ginsbach lined up on this TXC511
on to the bad news...Mark parlayed the 'behind the row' starting position into 2nd place battling for the lead by turn 2 as they circulated around the gravel pit starting area....and then he locked it up while overcooking the next 90 degree turn during an attempted pass for the lead and tumbled off the course head over heals.....it took a couple of minutes to get back on his feet and get oriented and try to start the bike, which wouldnt start. Eventually he discovered that the kill button was smashed so he cut the wires and jumped it and got going at least 10 minutes behind the field.
57 miles later he was still charging and managed a 4th out of five 50 Experts, with second place only 3 minutes ahead of him. A great effort and the TXC310R did its part on the fast desert course (at least 25% of the time it was 6th gear territory). Mark is watching the swelling go down in his right arm, and all the other Husky riders finished without incident.
