  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc New vs old WR/CR125

I'm looking for a CR/WR125 to turn into a trail bike like others have done here. My question is; should I get a newer model 09-14 or save some money and look for a nice older 02-08 bike. I know there are a few differences like a new frame, different suspension, and engine changes. Is it worth the extra money to buy a late model 125?

IDK it seems to me they all rip if you rubb'em the right way i'd go for a good older one if the price was good that would leave more money for the rubbin on part hell look @ Kellys bikes 83,02,04 there so cute like three bears lol

They can all be made to work very well.

I prefer the handling and chassis layout of the 09+, but it is definitely not a deal breaker if the price is right.

I also believe the older bikes had a better overall power delivery before they changed the cylinder in 09.

Spot on. The newer bikes handle slightly better and have better suspension components. the older bikes have the better motor (cylinder) and a better built frame with no cracking or motor mount issues. I also like the big slim tank for the older bikes. I've owned both and 09 and up is slightly better performance / race wise, the old bike is a great mount and a workhorse of a bike. If you can find a nice deal on an older one (they imported lots of 04's) get one and massage it to your liking.
