  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New 2012 TE310R hopefully?

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Hello,
First post and new to the Husky brand. I currently own a 2005 DR650 and a 2012 Super Tenere. I love both bikes but the DR is a handful on long trail rides. Had an opportunity to ride a 250 this last Sunday for 9 hours of single track and instantly reinforced my decision to swap the DR for something more capable off road. I had a bad off last year up in Northern Wisconsin on the DR and ruptured my right quad tendon. 3 surgeries and 9 months of rehab I am back riding again but the 360lbs of DR is like wrestling a pig in the mud. Add that I am 45, well you get the idea. I test rode a 2012 TE310 today and really like the fit to my size. I am 6'4" and 225lbs with a 38" inseam. The dealer already uncorked the TE and she ran pretty good for the short ride I had. Just under 6K OTD. Seems like a good deal for a brand new bike. Any major differences between a 2012 and 2013 I should consider? I was also looking at the Yamaha WR250R but I like the Husky much better. Anyway, that is my situation and I hope to be a new owner by this weekend. Wish me luck:D

Just read that now on the web. 2012 def is Mikuni. Not sure what the difference is though... Really about $1000 in the end.

Hopefully someone that actually knows these things will chime in, but I believe:
The 2012 uses the iBeat tool to service, the 2013 uses another tool
The 2012 should have a new injector? and the 2013 does not?
The 2012 should have an updated ecu, and the 2013 does not?

I'm fairly sure the general concencious (sp?) is that 2013 is the preferred model year for many reasons.

Correct.

In Australia, the run-out 2012's are sold with the upgraded racing ECU and 12 point injector. They needed this to be competitive to the stock 2013's with Keihin FI.

Other differences are:
Keihin FI on the 2013 is battery-less, the Mikuni FI on the 2012 is not. You cannot start a 2012 on a dead battery, 2013 you can.
Different heads. 2013 has the "red head" which is a completely different design and helps make the claimed 5% increase in HP & torque above the 2012.

The 2012 is still an excellent bike but IMO the 2013 was worth the extra spend and that's what I took home.

I wish you good luck and get the 2013 Husky from what I've read. Either bike IMHO is better than the Yamaha.

2013s are all Red Head motors TC, TE and TXC models 250 and 310s that what the R tag is and are all Keihin FI equipped

2012 TC250 is the only Red head with Keihin FI. The other 2012 models are black heads with Mikuni D38 FI.

On the (11 and 12) Black Heads (except TXC) a TXC ECU and 12 port injector change the entire feel, power, temp and torque of the motor.

Both are great machines both the engines and the chassis are great world championship enduro level spec set ups

Thanks. So the 2012's need the ECU reflash and 12 port injector or they already come with them? I am in the US if that helps. Fuel range plays a big part too since I often trail ride for 150 miles between fuel ups. Range doesn't seem good on the 310 but I could be wrong.

You will need to reflash the ECU on either year TE in order to get them to their full potential. The 2013 model requires very little work in order to get it running at full strength (I can PM you the details if you like) and being able to ride it with a dead battery is a big plus.

I have the 2013 TE310R and my mileage will range from 35 to 50 miles per gallon depending on terrain and how hard I'm pushing the bike. To get 150 mile range you will need to carry extra fuel. I don't know if anyone is making a larger main fuel tank for these bikes but one of the guys on this site might have insight into that issue. I am aware of a rear fender mounted tank that can carry an additional 1.1 gallons of fuel http://nomadtanks.com.au/. You will need to contact them to see if this tank can tie directly into the stock tank or if you would need to unstrap it and dump the fuel into the stock fuel tank.

Here is some 310 motivation...

Have you tried riding the TE 449 , any opinions vs the TE 310r? I love my TE 250 but still wish it had more power at times. I know the 310 is suppose to be a bit more but always nice to have some more to grow into  Plus with a 449 - it's a little more road capable which is always nice to have when connecting trails or just for normal commutes.

Well it's official, I put a deposit down on a 2012 TE310 this morning. While I am very excited, I am also frustrated with my current bike sale. The buyer is from Florida :oldman: and I am from Illinois and he paid a deposit with plans to have the bike delivered to him. However this morning while riding his GS at a training class he had an "Off" that required an ambulance. He texted me from the hospital telling me to keep the deposit and re list the bike. He is supposed to call me tonight to state his full intentions. I am guessing a broken limb? Have another buyer coming tomorrow morning so hopefully I can move on to Red and Black:cheers:

OK catastrophe diverted. I sold the DR this morning along with all the extras and then some. Have cash in hand so I will be bringing home the TE Tuesday
I asked the dealer to price me out a 12 point injector and an ECU re-flash. They don't seem very up on ECU work but Halls is a few hours south of me so no worries. Feeling majorly pumped right now. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.
Quick question. I can get a 4 year warranty from the dealer for $450. Anyone have direct experience with add on warranties for Huskys good bad or otherwise?

Reveille, I believe you need a new ECU not a re-flash. My 2012 310 came with the upgrade installed and the original ECU and injector were in a box along with indicators and mirrors. The upgrade was being sold for $450 in Australia, would expect it to be less in the States.

Thanks. Wonder what that does to my warranty though...
