  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Neutral light on Trail Tech dash

I finally got tired of looking at the wrong speed on my stock 2007 Husky SMR510 dash so I ordered a Trail Tech vapor and dash light assy. I have everything wired up but I can not figure out how to wire the neutral light up. Anyone have an ideas? Most bikes ground the signal wire thru the neutral switch but these bikes do not fully ground that wire. It looks like it runs to the ECU and then to the dash plug. I have a feeling that it uses AC current or a resistor to work the stock dash neutral light. It is not as simple as grounding it. Any help appreciated.

They didn't have a clue. Best I can figure out-The neutral switch is open in neutral and provides different resistances to the computer depending on what gears you are in. Leads me to believe that it is tied in with timing curves. These figures do change for each gear. There is a wire at the dash plug that has these inputs except in neutral it still shows some resistance. I tried to wire a normally closed relay up but there is not enough grounding provided to trip the relay when you put it in gear. I actually tried wiring it directly to the neutral switch and dash wire but nether will trip the relay. If there was a good grounding path thru the neutral switch we could make a relay work but there isn't. These Huskys are a different breed of bike:thumbsdown:

For the cause of promoting a positive owner/manufacturer relationship, this is where contact with Husqvarna Customer Support should result in at least an explanation of how the OEM system functions. Not spoon feed you a solution, just tell you how the product you own operates as stock.

This IMO, is exactly where the companies business credo should dictate support in the form of information.... if you inquire.

I understand most companies stipulate inquiries be directed thru their dealer network and I think that's total bull. A forward thinking, lets promote business, company will offer a "direct avenue" solution route for clientele.

Even if the answer is, "Crap, thats a tough one. I can't answer that for you, but give me a couple days... call back ... I'll try to have an answer for you."

This approach, more than anything else will catapult them above KTM or the like.

Yup, the problem is, I don't have a dealer close by. I e-mailed Husky about the problem with their stock speedo being off by 10 mph and decided to get a trail tech unit since the lcd screen went out at 3000 miles on an 07 bike. No one ever returned my e-mail. In return, I got a speedometer that is now acurate but can't find a way to fix the neutral light issue. But for me, I would rather have a working speedometer than a working neutral light. I would still be interested to know if the neutral switch is tied in with the ignition mapping on these bikes and if anyone has tried disconnecting it on a dyno.

I understand fully, I was just venting a sore spot with me. Sorry to dump on your thread.

Good luck.dave

I know this is a really old thread but I have run in to the exact same issue with my TE250 and the Trail Tech PDA. Trail tech technician simply said, in effect, "Don't know. Try the forums."
If anyone has solved this issue I would be very grateful to find out what the answer is as I have spent too much time on it already:confused::).
