  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Need a skidplate for my "08" TE 250 anybody have a favorite?

OK I need to get a skidplate to protect the bottom of the bike. It needs to keep the rocks off the engine but I also need it to protect the frame when going over big logs.I want an aluminum plate as I cant imagine carbon fiber or some plastic holding up.
I did some googling, and also went through the "general aftermarket source" page here http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/general-aftermarket-source-list.1134/ and see some nice stuff. I guess I'm leaning towards the emperor, but would like to hear opinions from others about these or other plates that are available.
Thanks, Dan

What I have found so far.

Uptite,
looks great, but is only .118 thick and I'm not sure how it will hold up to my bashing, especially with all the holes in it.http://halls-cycles.stores.dealerspike.com/product.aspx?zpid=5000889

Flatland
I like the .187 thickness, but this one offers no frame protection towards the back. http://www.flatlandracing.com/Merch...FR&Product_Code=24-44&Category_Code=Husqvarna

Emperor
looks really nice too and it looks like it covers the bottom of the frame all the way to the back. The site lists the thickness as .187 , but has a question mark after it. http://shopusa.emperorracing.com/p/...2/choose-your-bike_husqvarna_2008_te250?pp=24

Racing Solutions.
Look really cool too, but is only .118 thick and I can't tell if it covers the entire bottom of the frame? http://www.driveonit.com/120511/Husqvarna-TE-250-Skid-plate

Rooster.
I see this brand mentioned too but cant find any online.

Motosportz
I saw a reference to site sponsor making a nice skidplate, but I didn't see one on their site.

Also saw a picture of a nice skidplate that said it was a Husqvarna "special catalog " part. I can't seem to find much on the web for that one, looks like I would have to call the dealer to see about that one. http://www.husqvarna-motorcycles.com/public/documenti/SpecialParts 2011.pdf

Thanks!
Dan

I did not see anything in that Husqvarna pdf document for a 2008 TE250 which as far as I can remember is not the xlite engine.

Since you are in IL I would call Halls and ask what they have in stock, or call George at Uptite. Have you ever ridden in the So Cal desert? Georges plate has been well tested, at least I've never read anything negative about those as I recall.

Thanks Coffee , you are right , nothing in the PDF for the "08"s but I couldn't find a catalog for the "08" stuff, just threw that up for a reference, I would have to call Hall's.
I've never ridden in the SoCal dessert, I assume that you are saying that it is pretty rough?
Most of my concern is for going over big logs.
I made up a skidplate for my KLX250s using .125 aluminum plate and have had to straighten it a few times because of repeated abuse. :D That's why I am looking for something thicker.

KLX plate just finished.

I have the Enduro Engineering for my TE310 and it has done its job. Lot's rocks where we ride in eastern pa

I ordered one from uptite over 3 months ago, still have not received it.

Those Uptite skidplates look really nice, and I imagine his business is a small operation so I could understand some delay, but 3 months seems like a lot. Have they been communicated with you about the delay?
Appreciate the info,
Dan

I have the Uptite skidplate on my SM610. Now, keep in mind that an SM is lower than most dirtbikes, I lowered it a little bit when I revalved it and had it resprung for my weight, I ride it almost exclusively in the dirt, and I really like rocks. Best money I've spent on the 610 to date. This is what it looks like after 20,000 hard miles. I think it's ready for 20,000 more.

Also, George is old-school. If you ordered it online I'd definitely call him and ask about it. Has he given you a reason for the delay?

Thanks WoodsChick, but I'm looking for someone who has really beat the crap out of their skidplate,,,,,,,Oh wait.....LOL :D
That pic is perfect. Shows the frame coverage, and the abuse it can take.
That's what my homemade KLX skidplate in the pics above has ended up looking like.
Thanks!

As you can see, yes. If a skid plate does well in so cal, then it will probably do well anywhere.

There is a limited number of vendors that supply things like skid plates for Husqvarna bikes. If it were me, knowing everything I know, I would call Husqvarna dealers on this page to see what they have in stock before calling the vendors that make the skid plates. Some of those vendors run "hot and cold" with regards to when they build & ship things.

OK thanks, I'm surprised by all the recommendations for the "plastic" type skidplates. I've gotten about 3 suggestions for the Hyde plate now , and some for the Zip ty, and the TMDesigns ones. I'm not a huge fan of how they look, but will have to consider them.
Thanks everybody

I've got a Hyde on my 510, love how i can see the oil, change it easily, and also how high up the guard comes on the bike. It protects all the major components that you want. I actually was talking to a local husky dealer and he said that they are made in South America and then shipped up to the states. He said they came out with them because people in hare and hound were really destroying the Uptite ones (not bashing them because It was between an Uptite and a Hype plate, impulsively went with the Hyde). I dont think you can really go wrong with many of the products available for the Husky's, just comes down to preference....just my two cents.

"Plastic" describes a wide range of materials. Don't think of it as in a plastic fork which puts you in danger when eating good lasagna but as in a plastic rock bashing river running kayak.

I would love to have a plastic skid plate but there's no way I can be convinced that they can rebuke the rocks that an alloy plate can. I have the up tite. It has 3 different gages construction thickness for the areas it protects.

Trust me, I am pretty sure you could run over my hyde with a F-350 and it would still be good. It is probaly at least about 1/4" thick at least and the rocks just bounce right off of it.
